Lol Don't know how you do it. My boy was in the er last night... strep throat and scarlet fever. I am exhausted. 2 nights no sleep.

I spoke too soon when I said no one was zipping right then; I went back into the bathroom a few minutes later and one of the little guys had zipped 3/4's of the way around the shell while I was gone!

Alright, I've got my first problem. One of my own eggs zipped and when the poor little thing flipped the lid and tried to get out, it hadn't absorbed the yolk. It was hanging on like a brownish bag and I could see a vein. It was kicking and acting just fine except for the nasty looking bag hanging onto it's navel. I scooped it up, carefully cradling the yolk part so it wouldn't sever. I wrapped it in a soft washcloth and tucked it into a coffee mug so it couldn't kick around and hurt itself. It did break the little sac before I could pick it up and brownish yolk came out, but there wasn't a gush of blood or anything. It's sleeping all wrapped up in a mug sitting in the brooder. Will the blood vessel dry up so the thing can detach like I think it will? Anyone ever have this particular problem?

That chick seems like it's going to be fine, but I did get one that pipped, started to zip, and died.

Other than that, all the eggs that pipped have hatched and they're all in various stages of recuperation from birth.

I'll recap how many of the different kinds hatched, % and such after I've had some sleep. I'm wiped.

Your babies are too cute! It makes me anxious...I go into lockdown tomorrow. I keep chirping just in case they'll answer back.

Decided not to switch roosters. We will have plenty of chicks. Good luck with the rest of your hatch. Sure you are waking up to lots of sweet little peeping angels.

Somewhere on a thread here I was talking about chirping to them when they pipped, they responded with vigorous peeping and trying to zip the shell. 20 of them, all told. One of mine never pipped, and 5 each of the two different BCM's never pipped. Today is the beginning of day 22 so I think I'll leave them in there for another day or two. Thing is, I just got a shipment of Lavender Orpington eggs yesterday and I really need to set them...
Oh, and the thermometer to my bator appears to have a dead battery. It quit on me for no apparent reason this morning, but it did so in a way that indicated a dying battery.
