Fuzzy butts from my local feed store (PICS)

There are very few PEOPLE for whom I'd get up at the crack of dawn.
Yet I'll do it for poultry.
*sigh*

At least I haven't been sucked in by----oh wait, that's a silkie!

It's been a long cold winter (in fact, it's snowed off and on all day here in McMinnville) So these chicks are dearly needed! Our first glimps at SPRING!!!!

I don't want to go to Rural King - they put up signs indicating it was nearly time for Chick Days and I know I will want every one of them!

But if they are straight run, it will help me say no - chicks are a terrible (healthy) addiction!

Our local Agway will be getting chicks the last week of this month and I'm afraid to go there. Our friend owns the store...I'll just tell him that if he has a couple left over pullets I'll give them a good home...

....what is this crazy addiction? My first dozen won't even get here until the first week in April and I'm ready to get more! Yikes! I made a list on MPC too...

I used to have a struggle with my husband about how many chickens total we could have. Now he just laughs and shakes his head 'cause I am sure he thinks I am crazy! However, he IS thankful it is just chickens and not dogs that I am buying hand over fist. hee hee hee... I have more coming on the 18th of this month and the 8th of next month. I can't wait!

I got hooked before I walked through the door. I was there for onion sets and parrot food, maybe some cold-weatehr seeds. It was DECEMBER, for crying out loud, and we had Christmasy stuff to buy/do/plan/prepare.

Not to mention we had just moved, and we had NOWHERE to put them. No barn, no shed, no spare bathtub indoors. Nada.

So in love, I was SOOO in love at those tiny little peeps!

So I bought 6 EE. Later that night, I bought 7 BR...after all, I had "forgotten something" and needed to go back out anyhow. Then, a month later, I saw day old feather footed bantams....like fluffy ping pong balls, only personable!

Well, the brooder is empty since the others outgrew it....

Then, my daughter saved her money and bought a duck...right after a 40 head order of chicks was put in at Ideal.

Then he looked lonely, the lonely duckling, and our neighbors (asian) started asking about when will we have duck eggs...and now we have 22 ducks, misc breeds. As part of our homeschooling work lol. A venture into buisness!

So, my obsession is nearly full circle, being that I have 6 bourbon red turkeys on an incubator, 60 some odd pulets in varying stages of chickhood, a few layers (my original purchase), and 2 dozen small balls of feathers, 22 ducks, and an order for goose eggs to come in late April (if all goes well!).

I am a sick woman.

But I don't EVER have to leave home for entertainment!
