A backwoods coop in NH
I Was having trouble finding a thread or even a google search result about this, why don’t my chickens enjoy eating the fuzzy caterpillars? ( you know, the basic white ones with the black ) they are everywhere around here and my chickens that pretty much eat anything that holds still long enough could not care less. I know they’re generally toxic to some extent, so do chickens just have an instinct that tells them to avoid them? Or Do they all learn one way or another that eating them isn’t a smart idea. TIA, lol

So they sometimes do eat them?? I imagine it’s by accident to some extent otherwise a lot more chickens would be getting sick from it. I apologize, I know this is kind of a silly topic I just realized I had no idea about this..the more you know, I guess lol :caf

I’m sorryThat sounds unpleasant, I’m kind of shuddering just thinking about it :sick any ideas on how chickens don’t get sick from this all the time? Like I said they are everywhere, so there must be some instinct that tells them not to eat the caterpillars.
