Since you guys haven't seen my coop, this is what i'm working with right now

Since this picture i've added a fenced in run, the flowers around the tree are fenced off from the chickens and provide visual interest when the yard is scratched bare. They get under the camper too, they love to hole up during the heat of the day and dig big sand holes and roll around in it! lol.

I would like to build a "real" coop, but this is mighty nice too! I don't keep very many, i don't want crowding. As a result, they have plenty of space even on crummy days


This is DH's sister's girl, you can see the bench and the lattice in this pic, and the greenery in the "flower garden". It is butted up to a bit of small woods, so it gets plenty of shade, and i fenced in a tiny corner of scrub brush too that the banties like to go hide in.

I'm searching CL for cars, housing...... not coming up with much. I still like the bigger engine grand prix, but idk about gas mileage? Not much on a rent to own. A lot of ghetto, lol.

Trying to be a big girl about my roo. Gotta get to sleep soon anyway, working early tomorrow.

Well, that does suck that he did the "deed" before you were there...

I just had to do the deed on my pretty all black silkie, the one I was talking about a few days back... Not the one that just broke its foot... But the one that I though might have slipped a tendon or something, but I couldn't figure out where since it felt all the same as the other leg... Well anyway, I put her out of her misery. She couldn't even hardly stay upright today. I picked her up, brought her to the water and she drank like crazy. SO, I do not think that even though I had the feed and waterer right there, so she wouldn't have to go far... AND I think Criptoe may have hurt her more when she would get in the nest box with Skeeter to lay her egg. I even moved the nest box, made it more difficult for Criptoe to get in with them, since they are so small... Poor girl...

You ever click on the ads for chicken housing??? Wow is all i can say. Sticker shock! and the overblown claims of how many birds fit in there.......... a 4x8? over a dozen! A 8x10? 120!!! I'd laugh if they weren't serious.

Bored, if you can't tell. Got the house to myself again. Waiting for my laundry to get done drying, then i am hitting the hay *yawn*

I KNOW! I saw that ad for and 8x10 for 500 bucks, can house 150 chickens... I sent them an email telling them 80 square feet can not house 150 birds, and they should fix their ad so they wouldn't look like animal abusers. LOL

Aww. Did you feel any heat in the leg joints at all? MS can get in there and cause swelling...... otherwise sounds like you have a meanie too.

Mine wasn't even much of a meanie, really. Just too big, too immature for the small space and the couple adult hens that had to be shared If i'd thought i could re-home him.......... but we all know how those things end. I just wanted to give him a really nice day, love on him a bit. I just am not there as much as i'd like, to see all the little things. Sigh. If they could only talk............ It was just a huge risk i wasn't willing to take; if he was bullying as much as i think he was than he was a risk as the hens need to not fear getting a drink! The trying while perching told me he was either overzealous or really desperate, both not good signs with winter upon us. .......and with maurice hitting crowing stage it was an even bigger danger! (the porcelain d'uccle banty roo)

Poor cookie, his sister, she's apparently been demoted in status. The booted bantam hen is picking on her, even the shy blue hen is! I wish they had at least called me, Just because he was a pain don't mean the flock didn't all care about him, it really upsets me that he didn't think that i needed to know! I had the day off and would have come sooner to ease the transition and calm the birds. Until recently i was the only one going in there, and now the stranger snatched one of them! (their view) I could tell right away they were distressed when i got there. Both henry and maurice were crowing out, searching for him, and henry even let me pick him off the ground...... usually he bolts and i have to get him off a perch! Cookie is inconsolable.

boy, there is a definite polite argument going bad quickly on that "other" thread.....................i thought about having an opinion, but then thought nah! Been there, done that!

Nova, you can come get me if you need me to do a look-over on them legs! Don't know as i'll be much help, but perhaps we can splint? Try to figure out how they are getting hurt?

My guess would be if you have a perch where the lower birds can reach up and snatch on feet......?

i started to write and opinion, then thought, hell I am staying out of this one. I was very tempted to hit that flag button. If it had been olive who had said what "she" said, then, bam!
