EEK on the coyotes... My boys teacher was telling me today that one of her students farms had a coyote dig under the coop and take out the chickens... Not good...

BobBry, sorry, I haven't tried to purchase the golden feather... I have thought about it, but then I kept getting in trouble for stupid things, and decided I was just fine being a peon member.

I cleaned the coops tonight. Its supposed to be raining tomorrow, so figured I best get it done tonight. Lit up the pile. I am still considering taking the floor out of the converted summer coop. I think I much prefer the packed earth. I have never smelled amonia before, not even last year... Today when I was cleaning up, I tried the deep litter... I am not doing that either... I was like, OMG! Then I really thought about it, I am probably smelling it more because I have 2x as many birds this winter as last... And over the summer I never smelled it because it really was open air coops... But the amonia smell was not in the coop, but in the converted summer coop. Don't worry, I have plenty of ventilation, but the minute I started turning the pine shavings, I smelled it. Maybe I am just over reacting, cuz I really hate a smelly coop... 20 birds pooping in there... Yuck... LOL.

OH! Chicks are hatching. Only one so far. There were only 2 eggs. There were more than that, but Criptoe and her big feet kept causing them to break when she'd force her way into the nest with Skeeter. I put the other egg to my ear to see if I could hear peeping or scratching, and I think I heard scratching, but its not pipped. I'd hate her to have just one baby again. This one is a 4 toed yellow baby. I don't know who laid it, so I don't know what it'll look like. Came from a standard sized bird... thats all I know... So pathetic this time around!

Anyway... I need to go and fix the kids food... Sheesh... think they are helpless... Oh wait.. they are 4 and 7... Of course they are!
