Mom2 - if you can rescue some of your old gravel or get to a pet store to buy some aquarium bacteria you'll be a lot better off. New water has to cycle until bacteria build up in either the filter or the gravel. That bacteria keeps the water from getting yucky. Cycling can take up to 2 weeks. People clean their aquariums too often sometimes and destroy all the good stuff. I kept a 300 gallon aquarium for 15 years - hardly every changed water, just drained it down and added new if I was having cycling problems.

You might get one goldfish to throw in your new water. Their waste helps water cycle quicker. But goldfish are really hard to keep because they poop sooooo much so don't get more than one in that size tank. It's hard to get a small aquarium (20 gal or under) to cycle properly sometimes. It's much easier the larger the tank. This is one area where I'm a fair expert - ha.

yes- I kept the filter the same, and I only three-quarter dumped the water - also my daughter has a HUGE goldfish tank in her room, so I used a scoop of her water as well. Kayla has an Oscar in her room. Both girls told me that they cant follow my advice with water changes because all of my fish die, and theirs are doing great. In fact, I told Tiffany that she needed to clean her gravel- and she said, "No offense Mom but Im just going to keep doing it my way because my fish are alive and yours is dead". lol. Brat.
Anyhow- we will see if I am any better at keeping dempseys alive. Im gonna get my big tank, yet.

I need some hugs. I am really sad right now. My mom has to go to work tonight, and she wasn't in a good mood. She said, "I guess no one's gonna fold the towels for me while I'm gone." and I said "What towels?" because I didn't see any. Her reactions from then on were really uncalled for.

I gotta say your Mom sounds like me. Its very frustrating to do all the housework and work as well. It makes for snarkiness when it feels like nobody is helping out. I have in fact, said the exact words that your mom said. Maybe worse. No definitely I have said worse. And I would have had the same reaction or worse than your mom if I would have gotten a "what towels" response. I dont wash clothes or towels anymore. That job belongs to my daughters and sometimes it gets to be ridiculous on how long it goes. In fact, this morning I will be thinking of you when I tell them there are no clean towels. lol

I assume that you folded the towels after she left? Trust me, she appreciates it even if she doesnt say it.

No one was ditched for family i just got stuck in a situation that went from bad to worse .....

dealt with mom and the nasty house for three weeks - did not even get finished with two rooms with all the extra she had me fdoing !!! ( her wifi isnt the best so could read but couldnt rellly post)
then we headed out so she could see her sisters and friends .... and she gets sick .... hospital sick .. not getting out for days or weeks sick .... so i am stuck in south ga .... mnissing family friends and chicken world !!!!!
do not get me wrong - i am worriede about her but the dr assures us she will be ok .. but i get lonely and she ius always mean to me cause i am her least favorite ...

and yesterday i am chosen to tell my mom that when she gets out of the hospital she is going to a nursing home !!!! needless to say it did not go well !!!!

so i am sitting at my friends house this morning and decided to try and catch up.... man ya'll have talked and didnt get all of it read and caught up on yet .... but will eventually

but on good surprise side i see i have won a 1 year gold membership for being the third closest guesser on the 10 million posts contest !!! oh to get home and rest and be able to enjoy chicken world !!! i reallly miss my friends !!!

Hi Bob. I am good. Tired but good. Been real sick the last 2 days, flu or something. Had a flu shot also. Then of course all the lambing. 42 lambs right now with only 4 more girls to lamb. Be glad when its done. 5 on the bottle.

Dont them Wellys lay beautiful eggs ? I just love their darkness. And I have people fighting over mine lol. I only get so may of them a day and it seems everyone wants them.

Hope your rotator cuff gets ok. I know that hurts. My daughter had a problem with one of hers from barrel racing horses.
