Fuzzy's Farm

Oh my gosh. I was just outside taking our dog for a walk and the big oak tree above our cars was making noises. Half the time it sounded like creaking and half the time it sounded like a woodpecker. Freaked me out. Needless to say, me and the dog went to the other side of the house away from it. Over there I noticed that the oak tree next to the downed one has a ton of broken branches either just hanging on or completely snapped off dangling up high. Definitely need to get those out pronto before they fall down. Those trees are hardwood and that could cause significant damage to person or animal if any fall while someone's underneath. In fact, about 1 1/2 years ago a branch from that tree snapped. DS and I got a rope and tied it to it and pulled it off from a safe distance. That sucker was super heavy to carry.

Found out last night the road leading to ours has washed out. Water was over the road for days, but people with big jeeps/vehicles kept going through it anyway. Now no one is getting through there and until the water recedes, which won't be anytime soon, that won't be getting fixed.

Gosh tee.. sounds like a mess ... hope it gets better

I'm missing a chicken.

Just went out and locked everyone up and noticed my white/tan ee girl isn't in the coop. Did a search around the yard, vernal pond, road, pole barn and nothing. No chicken, no feathers. Nothing.

I really hope she's sitting on a nest I didn't see. She's such a pretty bird and one of our favorites.

I hope you find her soon and she's okay, tee.

Fuzzy, no it isn't. Ironically, when it rains, it pours. I didn't say anything earlier, but the reason I checked near the road for her was because DS and I found one of the barn cats earlier when we were leaving to go to the store. Poor kitty was the second one in a month. I truly hate when that happens. And the chickens tend to wander near there, too, so I had to look. I don't know if you remember me posting about this last year or not, but we actually lost a chicken from being hit by a car. People around here just seem to think the road is a raceway. Makes me so freakin' mad.

Gigi, I hope we find her, too. She's the prettiest chicken. Lays green eggs, too. She's the only one that does and I have to say I'm pretty tempted to grab her eggs up from the ones still on the counter and throw them under a silkie that has been seeming to have broody tendencies the last few days.

I hate when that happens too. I was freaking out over my pure sf chick... couldn't find him. He's not feathered enough to be with out his mama, but she's not sitting with him now, and ditches him. SO, he's been chumming with the chicks from Big Red, they are fully feathered. Anyway, I am looking and looking, and where to I find him? Crammed in between the two SF pullet chicks. LOL. They're keeping him warm.

Lost an EE pullet today. I mentioned on the other thread that she' wasn't looking so good a few weeks ago. Always puffed up, not cocci, not parasite, not anything antibiotics fixed. Anyway, found her passed this morning. Looks like Dottie (GLW) has another bout of IB occurring. She didn't even come out of the coop today. She's also not laying right again. I will never get Wyandottes from Townline again. ALL 3 I got from there... Anyway. Shes treated, and hope she pulls through again. She's got heat tonight in that coop... Poor girl. Yes, I will keep treating her everytime she has a relapse. I am a sucker that way.

The eggs have been in the bator for a week. I took out 6 eggs that were clear or obvious quits. Nothing beyond start of veining. I x'd 8 eggs that I am not certain of. There is a lot of veining, but no defined "EYE" like the rest. The veining is also not spider webbed, but more like an up and down pattern, and what looks like could be the start of an "EYE" but not... SO, not sure if those are quits, but I put them all on one side. AND 2 yoko's are clearly developing, eye and all. WOOT. Both the one I was originally unsure of, and another. One polish is in the x'd group, and 2 jap bantams as well. One polish was clear, and one jap bant was clear. SO, out of 43 eggs set, this includes one that didn't have a spot in the turner, and I hand turned every day, We are down to 37 eggs in there now, and that hand turned one is among them. I will candle the 8 again in a few days and see if they've developed more or not. If not, then it'll be 29 eggs in the bator. 43 set to 29 wouldn't be such a bad number. I know... don't count the chicks before they hatch, and I am not... Just saying, that's currently about 68% development on shipped eggs if only 29 are developing accordingly.
