Fuzzy's Farm

OK. Where have I been? all over! Been busy busy busy! I have eyed many things/ ideas for the trailer, trying to see how I can get what i can afford and make it look like the eye candy that I want.....

Made my first big-money-all-at-once purchase, a countertop. Which though on a deep sale they do not tell you that you will need another $100 of hardware and glue to install it. Uugh. We shall see, i guess since i don't get to see what i've done for another 2 weeks! It is a medium/dark counter of a blackish brown base with beige and cream specks, grey black specks. Not so harsh as the black, but still has the depth to tone down the bright reddish wood of my accent cabinet section. My first choice was a black and orangey one, but i think this one will be MUCH easier overall to match paint and whatnot to!

Rethinking having wood, fake wood or any kind of vinyl looking wood in the kitchen. Pretty, to be sure. But what about in the future? Or about trying to carry 3 colors of wood in one little room? It's why i didn't do butcherblock, thought it would look way too busy! I have discovered "lumber liquidators". Cheap, and they do carry the butcherblock, but..................... So thinking about the old tried and true vinyl "tile" sheet.

Still looking for a stove. Decided yesterday that i was definitely getting an old used one, due to the electric ignition thing. Thought it was a grand idea, until for some unknown reason my power was out. So no heat, since the natural gas furnace still needs electric for the blower and the thermostat! So if i get a new oven i won't even have that to huddle against! All is well, and i was grateful for that eye opener BEFORE it dropped below zero.

Spent yesterday spray-foaming the gap around my front door from when they installed the frame; disregard what the can says and get two! (I didn't) Splurge on the white duct tape if you are plasticing your windows of with it (I didn't)

And to finish off this story, a quote from a sign at meijers i almost bought...

"Money may not buy happiness, but it does buy marshmallows which is essentially the same thing"

LOL. It's definitely a love/ hate thing with me and this trailer right now. Money sucker! But it will be nice someday....... I am dreaming of a functional kitchen right now, for sure, with holidays coming up. Not doing this for looks! the thing was completely gutted before i got it, and so i have to pretty much buy everything but the sub-floor and ceiling. Many days i roll over and wonder what i'm doing, and want to give up......... but i'm a german/french/indian and that's not in my vocabulary :p

You'll get there fuzzy. You should come to Holland and check out the resouce store just down the way from me. You'll be surprised at the stuff they've got. Neighbor redid his kitchen with everything from the store there. 3 different colors of wood too. Dark cabinet, butcher block bar, and medium wood floor... I say medium, because it's not honey golden colored, and not really reddish, but a nice in between color.

Hi Everyone. Not much going on here but babies, babies, babies. #3 is due this week. It's wearing me out doing all this cooking and sewing-lol.

Turned in my papers for teachers retirement - woo hoo. Jan 1 although last day will actually be dec 8. I'm so excited.

Well, Nova, Georgie has leg issues. Normally in a goat the two bones that make up the leg grow together to form one solid bone. Georgie's hasn't fused all the way so she is limping. Vet put a cast on her to keep it immobile. It lasted one day. I cut the cast in half with my little reciprocating saw and then DH and I put it back on her using duct tape to hold the two sides together. This lasted two days. Vet says she will try splinting it to see if it stays on longer. I'm thinking a good vet wrapping with maybe something inside to kind of stiffen it may be the way to go. I don't know. Stupid goatie. In the meantime she's getting alfalfa as it is high in calcium so help bones grow. She loves that - lol.

The girls are molting like crazy. I looked in their run yesterday and it was covered with white feathers. I thought a raccoon had gotten in but everyone is fine. I only have one whiyete hen and she doesn't look scroungy yet so I'm sure there are more feathers to come.

How's the allergies, Nova? Fuzzy? I hate strong smells also. I bought a long denim barn coat off a woman on ebay. When it came it smelled so heavily of the most horrible perfume you wouldn't believe it. I've w washed it twice and there is still a slight odor so in the machine it will go again. Luckily I do like it a lot and it washes fine thankfully. How do people do that?

Hi Total. Your dog sounds so cool.

Hi all - I hear that MI is getting that nasty white evil drug stuff falling all over the place. We don't - yet. BUT, we do have fog. It's almost noon and just clearing now.

Had to take the doggies in for update on vaccines since we are putting them in pet Radisson while we go away for Thanksgiving. Boy, handling two BIG dogs at once was a challenge.

gigiok, we have goats too - I didn't know about their bones, that sounds really challenging for you. I know neither of my girls would stand for splints very long. Hope all goes well.

Nova, that music was simply awesome! Sorry you are having issues with the new job though.

Fuzzy, sounds like you are making great strides. I remember what it was like to not have a kitchen,. But for me it was during the summer and I camped out on the patio with a camping stove. Worked pretty well. Right now we have a gas range, which is on it's last legs. I'm staying with gas since it does provide cooking ability when the power goes out. We got a generator now, but It's kind of hard for me to maneuver one my own. We also have a gas fireplace, only have to flip the electric ignition switch when the power goes out and it works great.

I only have one chicken molting right now - she's the only one older than a year. All the rest are between 14 and 24 weeks. Got one cockerel in quarantine - he seems to have some nasty king of nasal problem. May have to put him down - I won't expose the healthy birds to anything from outside. Sadly, he's a nice bird; but then you always run the risk when you buy from an unknown source. Oh well, lesson learned.

Stay warm and dry everyone.
