Fuzzy's Farm

That sob hawk was back again today. I purposely waited to let the birds out this morning until late... Anyway, I was reading a book and I heard the alarm, ran out the front door, no socks or shoes or coat, and there was that hawk chasing Fritz the Jerk around under the thicket! Fritz is fine, all hens and chicks and roosters accounted for. I just spent the last 1.5 hours walking around outside to make sure it didn't come back..
That sucker better not get my Polish or my Fav roo. I'll be camping up at your place if he does !!!!

Hello Rusty

My babies survived the day, they stayed in their kennel and the others stayed on their side, they seemed to be pretending the door was shut

Ah,............ birds.
Then i let out the others and gave everyone sardines, good times. Then had to manually toss babies out the door and shut it quick enough that i got myself! They were convinced the big girls wanted to eat them and the big girls seem bored with the drama.

I see why maurice is aiming for the big ninny- he tried with his foster mom today and boy did she blow up! Chased him down and grabbed him by the hackle, hung on while he screamed and ran! Geesh. Poor little guy, i kinda felt sorry! Henry looked irritated but didn't get angry when he made a little run at cookie, so if the girls are ok i think he will be ok with sharing. lol. (Sharma the foster mom has a fetish for henry, the big roo- what a mixed up bunch!!!)

I think i'm gonna use this brief warming to try to wean the babies from their light........???

Sorry about your girl, nova. :( I looked at hardware cloth today, not cheap! Biggest i could find was only 3' x 10'. ??? . Why don't it come taller???
I couldn't do a true free range, it's illegal to kill hawks and i'd be too angry...........
"uncle" saw the big hawk a week ago, (the one i battled over my chickens this summer with the 3' wing span) and DH saw what we believe to be a coyote today, not 50' from the shed! (100' from the coop!) I saw tracks the other day but was hoping it was a stray dog; DH says not to worry but i don't like the idea of a coyote so close when i'm wandering out of the coop just after dark :(
Coyotes won't attack people. Now that I say so, there will probably be some news flash somewhere that says one did... anyway... I wouldn't worry about coyotes.
EEK! I'd be a bit worried about the goats... Do you still have the goats?... with a coyote around... I am glad he can't get into your coop. Maybe he'll get the witch... Oh, I so didn't just say that.

As much as I so very totally hate that the hawk got my little girl, I would rather only lose one here and there free ranging them, and have them be happy, than loose a whole coop of birds in one night to a raccoon... After the attack, I tried to sucker the girls into the run for the rest of the day, but the neighbors birds heard me whistling for mine to come, and THEY all came running. Carl tried to get them to go back over to their own yard. It was pretty funny. They see me, and they come running. They hear me in the front, on my cement slab calling my birds, and his all come running too. It is some sight to see, me standing in the middle of 60 odd birds! LOL I love it!

I WAS going to say... if you don't have any neighbors...in regard to this hawk, remember the Triple S rule. But if neighbors are close... then I guess it depends on the neighbor.

Also, for Carl, he should check his GLW girl for any puncture wounds. I've lost a few because their flesh was punctured by the filthy talons on a hawk! An infection that I couldn't stop.

EE roosters are beautiful :D

Hi newbie! :)
Where is everybody ??
I was hanging with the birds, watching the integration process.

I'm praying that all goes well, i took the front off the cage........... They've been caged with the big birds for a month now, and i've been making them range together for a couple weeks (More like a panicked run into the corner.......) But yesterday seems to have been a turning point? The big birds don't seem concerned with the babies at all anymore. At any rate they've outgrown their cage, i pray all is well. I set up some hidey-holes just in case!

That little hawk must be starving..............Are you guys going to keep your birds locked down for a few days, Nova?
I feel for the hawk, but i also feel for your birds.......

What did you use, by chance? I've never been able to make a good recommendation for a hawk wound :( I wondered because if i knew what didn't work, maybe it would narrow down what would??? Worth a shot.
