Fuzzy's Farm

And you need a safe coop and chicken feed and bedding and a run (or free range area) and a waterer that doesn't freeze. Lots of other things go along with taking care of a chick that quickly becomes a full grown chicken.
yes, safe coop and run! Unless doing an inside pet. 1/2 inch hardware cloth is the best, coop that can be fully shut down at night! Hardware cloth on the windows. Covered runs are the best. I don't have one yet, but be sure that if i still keep my flock this spring it is top on the list! I stayed with them all last summer to protect them, but didn't leave me much of a life.

I so agree with that, Fuzzy, especially the "not much of a life" part. I broke down and bought aviary netting to cover the run but it's been worth it's weight in gold. It's a large run and took quite a bit of netting but I don't have to worry about hawks (or even an occasional eagle) getting in. Just raccoons and possums manage to squeeze through the holes around trees but the girls are shut up tight at night so all are safe thank goodness.
