Whats the hottest? I know if you are aiming for eggs mostly, I'd go with production breeds like sex links, RIR, leghorns. But dual purpose breeds are nice too for having the cockerels for dinner... like wyandottes, faverolles, orpingtons, marans...

Up at the top of the page, there is a tab that says breeds... You can check your wants and needs and climate conditons there, and it'll give you a list of suitable birds to begin with, then you can move on from there.

Lady i talk to on a different forum live in Ektor County in texas... they've got more snow there this year than we have had here where I live in Michigan.

Wow you live in mi? That's cold huh? Good idea about checking breeds for climate. It gets very hot and humid here in summer. Actually I hate to even go outside during the day come June - august! It gets extremely hot! I never understood why people come here on vacation in those months.. It's so hot ,you can't enjoy outdoor activities unless your in a swimming pool! Lol rivers and lakes are full of gators! Like to eat them but not swim with em! Lol

Few people have said leghorns and road island reds are good for this area.. But gonna check out breeds like you advised!

It's not to bad in the cold department right now... but it can be.

I think in the heat, you need to be prepared by keeping bottles of frozen water to replace in the waterers, misters with fans... I soak the ground where the birds go for shade... provide thick shade... fans in the coops to keep it cooled down... hosing the coops down before bed time to coop them off...

my chickens were happy and no more casualities since the police have been out its like magic .... make me wonder if that wasnt part of the chicken prob before ... looks like someone is looking at jail time from what they said ... YAY finally some justice for my birdies .....
everyone seems healthy and content so i guess its time ot start posting to find them homes ... i am keeping my possible SQ silkie roo and my little girl for daffy and daffy and tiny of course ... when daffy gets a little more assertive i will put him out with his girl ... she is a pretty little silkie cochin mix ....

How about if my dog grabs a falcon? Is that illegal?

How about if the falcon wraps its OWN neck around MY hot wire- in an apparent suicide? Is that illegal?

STUPID falcon not only ate all my quail but now my littlest showgirl GIRL is GONe. nothing but feathers in a pile in the corner. Now, the silkie is a roo, and a showgirl is a roo and that leaves ONE showgirl who doesnt get on with the older hen group- and well bird is mean, she hangs with the old girls. That means my ONE showgirl is gonna be lonely after Saturday...and DID I MENTION that that little runt pullet was my favorite besides Bird?????? I was holding this one just yesterday!!!!!!

Im so angry. I cant cover my chicken yard with bird netting because I am BROKE and the d$%@^&#&@*(&#*&$ Falcon KNOWS it!

UGH. I need to jump up and down and stomp my feet I am so UPSET.
And
I tried texting Robin but I was too angry so I tried using Siri and she doesnt understand english.
