Fuzzy's Farm

Ah ha, finally caught up.

Sad news tonight. Big old meanie Henry beat up little Maurice. On Maurice's side of the roost, too by the splatters. :( Comb points OK, No pieces of skin missing but he is now bald on the back of the head and has a split near the base of his comb. DH's uncle let me use some of his "surgeon's secret" ointment for the comb, since i was unprepared for this. They've been getting along well, until this. Just normal stink-eye once in a while. Another sign of spring coming, i suppose; boys getting testy.

So i set up the big dog coop for him, tried to put his mom and sis in there with him but the little meanies were pecking at his head too, Grrrr!!! So i took them out. Tried to put my little Hope and her little friend Ann in there, since they are so sweet and docile. Little turd started picking on them! He pinches their heads if they try to eat with him. Little turd. So i took them out, and he's in by himself. On the bright side, picking on the girls reminded him that he still has status, so he seemed much perkier and started eating like mad. Brat.

Maybe i'm seeing things, but his comb seems to lean a tad at the end now. I hope not, i love that boy and i really do think he is show status. Since he's tops in my coop and henry has picked on even the girls at night when it comes to the roost, this means henry is now on the stink list. Not to the point he needs shot, but he does need re-homed immediatly.

Aw... poor Maurice!

Sting is not feeling well tonight. I don't know what his problem is, but I think he may have ingested to much straw... I checked his crop, and I can feel it moving in there, it is not hard, or does it feel impacted, but he was hunched up and looked like he threw up water... I mean, it literally came out in a stream. I picked him up, and smelled for sour crop, no bloating on the crop, and the ball in his crop didn't feel like it was impacted, I could move it, squeeze it... I don't know. He's the pretty one, the NH/silkie cross. Well, he chowed some grit, and went up to roost. THe grit is available in a feeder at all times this time of year. Well, we'll see in the morning I guess if he is worse...

oh boy. Getting desperate for spring, i guess. I felt sorry and bought my birds some baby spinach the other day, boy they devoured it!

(can't think of why else besides spring fever to eat STRAW!)

Yes, this is me (gigiintheforest). For some reason I couldn't log in tonight. The password I used would not work so I opened a new account - geeesh. If I ever find the right password I'll be back to my old self - lol.

Sorry fuzzy that you are having roo problems. Yep, I bet it's a taste of spring. And Nova I hope Sting's crop is okay. I worry about the straw also.

Hi tee!

Hi Gigiok. Welcome to the thread. HEHEHE. Don't you just hate when your brain malfunctions and you forget passwords? LOL

The straw is in the run, It had a bunch of seeds/ect mixed in with it, and he's not the only one. ALSO, I throw down greens every other day, seeds, corn, bread, scratch, worms in a lot, and I have pulled straw from beaks, as well as feathers from their scratching and digging before. I ran out of leaves! Nine bags was not enough. Next fall, I will definetly bag more. A lot more.

I find out tomorrow if I have the baking job. Had to do a back ground check. LOL.

A lot of factors come into play when deciding who will be a bottle baby. I never ever leave 3 on a ewe and depending on how much milk the mother has determines how many I pull off her. Sometimes I have mothers that will have twins and decide they only want one of them, so that is another factor. The number I have on a bottle changes from year to year. I think last year I had 6 on the bottle. The newest one is already spoken for so she will go to a new home soon. The other two will go to the auction Saturday.
My sheep are hair sheep. No shearing.

! I knew that!
Hello everyone! Wow I've been one sick chick! Still feel like crap, hubby has located the charcoal, and is picking that and the Nauzene both up for me on way home! Didn't sleep to much last night, but know every line in the bathroom walls! Lol... I think the baby looks very real. Good job! Hate to hear that a few of you are under the weather also. The twins are precious.. Have never had anything except dogs, cats, and chickens! Might be fun to raise a lamb! Have a good day all, and thanks for everyone's advice!
I'm so sorry you're sick Savannah. The stuff that's going around this year is the pits. There are tons of people out in my building at work. DH and I just heard on the news that the flu vaccine doesn't work (only 7% effective) for people over 65. We aren't over 65 but it does make you wonder about getting it - why bother?

Hi everyone.
Rusty, I've been covering my face with a scarf wrapped around my head. Nova, I don't know if the heat pad would work, but I wear at least 3 layers when I work. Gigi, I have an inhaler for when breathing becomes an issue. Thing is, I only developed the asthma issue about 3-4yrs ago after I had a bleach incident. Doctor at the time gave me the inhaler, told me to use aleve to reduce the inflammation in my lungs and sent me for an x-ray. She then told me she didn't think there would be any long term problems that would arise from it. Yeah. It took a few months before I didn't have to use the inhaler on a regular basis, but here I am years later and when I am weakened by sickness/lack of sleep or when it's really cold out, I have issues and have to use it. So needless to say, the doctor was wrong.

Today got really bad, but I made it through. And then I received a blessing. The sub out for jury duty is done with the trial and can come back to work. Yay! They called me and asked if I wanted her to work for me tomorrow since I've been having it so hard the last few days. Um, yeah! Came home and slept 3 hours straight and will probably zonk out early again tonight. Then it's lounge city all day tomorrow. Thank the Lord.

Nova and Fuzzy, sorry for your roo troubles.
Robin, he's a cutie. You have got to be crazy busy between the bottle babies and work.

I do not like to be around people who have just gotten the vaccine. I mean, they are given a mild dose of the crap... BUT I have heard of so many people who have gotten the vaccine, and then ended up sick, and gotten family sick. My mom used to get it all the time, and she'd end up sick afterwards. I guess I can understand the reasoning, but man...

Hey Nova. Yep, brain malfunction pretty much sums it up. I've got straw that I pull out of the goats' barn all over the chickens' run. It does make for a nice place for them to dig and scratch but I'm like you and think next year I'll do a LOT more leaves.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed you get the job. It sounds good if they are doing a background check. They wouldn't bother if they weren't interested. I baked bread today and it smells so good. There's something elemental about baking bread...
