Fuzzy's Farm

?? Nothing from me i don't think. I've been soooo busy! Weather isn't helping, either.
Several inches of Sand! and if you want to get spiffy toss in little bits of fine gravel (I have a gravel road not far away, i take the fine stuff that sifts into the puddle on the end of the driveway.) Gives them a great start for their little gizzards :) Any time i use a heat lamp, in fact, i use sand. Saved my bacon this year, too. My lamp finally had an uh-oh, and had i used shavings they would have all been fried!
Yes, it's my long week.
That's what i was thinking of doing! Kinda did a michigan hick thing like it with a couple of the long skinny flower boxes, and some wire over the top. Cat grass was in it for the cat, and the chickens attacked it! I tried to save it by putting the barrier, and it worked well for me. For the long skinny hardware cloth, i think it's only $15 for about 5 feet? You could build large raised beds out of repurposed wood or concrete. Don't know about the dirt, unless you steal dirt from another area of your yard.

Poop. I want the orloffs real bad. Don't know if i can have them long term, though. :( I really want to see the silkies, too, really want one of those as well, LOL. I want i want , i want............ Drat. Maybe someone could be a friend for my little hope?
Fuzzy - If you don't mind and Nova don't mind I will send the Orloffs home with her and she can keep them until you can have them :) I will have silkies available a little later on. I have to wait to keep their eggs so I know they aren't from the cochin that was in with them. My other pen of silkies has the Orloffs and Golden Campines in with them so until I can get rid of them or find another place to put them I can't save their eggs either yet.

IF I could get help building a coop for them.

ANYWAY, winter is back. The witch...

Tee, if your roads are anything like my roads today... I nearly slid into a big iceberg at the end of a cul du sac... freaking icy rear roads. Scared the crap out of me!

ANYWAY, I went and picked up chick feed... AND they had 3 little silkies in the bantam bin. Just hatched.. SOOOO VERY TEMPTED! BUT All extra money is staying put... Have that last bit of property taxes due on the first... can't spend extra. Besides... I'd just tick robin off. She's hatching out silkies. HEHE

Nova believe it or not my other hen sister that I have in same coop (there's just 2 bantam hens and rooster in this coop) she's decided she wants to be broody also so I have 2 hens on one nest! Want me to send you pic to post? Very funny! Glad I got eggs marked last night!

LOL, sure, I will post for you. Your poor roo in that coop is going to be LONELY. LOL

Hi Bob.

Well, I went out to check to see how Criptoe was, she's got only one chick... She abandoned the other egg, and one chick died right after hatching. I think she may have accidently squished it though... She's abandoned the nest box and moved out to the floor already right next to the food and water dish I have set up for her. NOW I am seriously considering going and getting her another chick. She's a very good mother... OH.... CAN'T.... HAVE... TO.... CONTROL... MYSELF... OR... YOU'll... HAVE... TO... NAME... ME... ROBIN...LOL The nice thing is, I know they'd let me only buy one chick too. LOL. Not kidding. I know they would.

Anyway...

Garage Mamas...Here is what's funnier now. I picked up one of the chicks, the chick had a fit, and the moms were tripping over each other to be the first to the rescue. That was funny. The moms were separate today, one at one end of the brooder box coop thingy in the garage, and one at the other... The box is 2x4... And the chicks were running back and forth between the two. They'd get under one, then one would come out and run to the other, then back, and again. I thought I was going to pee myself. It was quite amusing. I am so glad I left them brooding together. Think its a great memory maker.

Nice job on him, Hannah!

Here is a pic of Savannah's brooding duo

And now for my adventures in boobdum hatching...

I have before warmed eggs that mama has left in the nest till they finished hatching enough to shove back under mom on the floor... Always a bit of a pricker having shell remnants in the bra... WELL, I decided today that I would take the egg that Criptoe left in the nest since it was still a bit warm and keep tight on it until I could candle it and see what was what. It is a darker egg shell, so a bit harder to see through. SO, I took some old frozen cockerels to a man who only feeds his dog a homemade meat diet since they were freezer burned, and went to meijer, and went to get my kid, all the while, having this egg under one of my tatas in my bra. Well, what a waste of body heat. I got the big mag light out, went in the furnace room and candled it. NOTHING. Absolutely nothing in it. How did I miss that when I was candling at a week along? I am guessing I must have been undecided on it, and put it back. Well, since I never candled her eggs after that original candle... Well anyway. All I can say is I am so glad that that particular hen has STRONG shells. Could you imagine the STINK had it popped in my top? Yeah... GO. Nova. LOL

Very nice picture, Hannah.

Robin I don't feel so bad now having bought 16 more chicks - lol.

Eggs in your bra - now I've heard it all
lau.gif
! What if you'd had a car wreck and your air bags went off - ha ha ha. Well, I guess in that case you would have more to worry about than smashed eggs...

Nova, you got a laugh out of me at that mental image and the possibilities.......... oh the stink of a bad egg! Whew was luck on your side or what??!

Idk. Have to think hard on this one. Not that i mind building stuff; just seems like i have more money than time these days. Before i was broke and had all kinds of time! Bah. So i wasn't joking that i wish you didn't have that basement rented out already! Not that i'm not OK here, but it kills me that there you are needing money and here i am with money but no time and not even able to give my birds loves. I wish i could help. Job treating you OK? If you quit did you at least get enough so you don't lose your home? I have been worrying.

But i did get some scratch, going to switch over to the scratch and showbird supplement in anticipation of spring. Made their day after all those pellets!
Going to have to anty up and get the ivermectin pour on, i have the paste still riding around in my purse. Seems like i'm lucky to spend an hour out there with them, and that's devoted to feeding and watering and the poo duty.

My apartment/trailer is going to have a lot of beige in it, since that's what i've been finding a lot of at the thrift stores. :) And pink, because i like it :)
I have decided to make the chandelier thing peach if i can though, just because i really like that color. All the beige should make it pop and it will make me smile every time i see it . Still thinking about that dang expensive piece of crap coop though just because it's pretty and because it's light enough for me to easily move to clean; back to that needing time and not having it thing :/

Speaking of which, Bob i got de-railed the day i tried to do the sewing for you, so i'm still trying to but haven't yet; that did make me stop and wonder what color your birds are, anyway? I want the saddles to compliment the birds. And i'm trying to do it ASAP so your hens get some relief!

Gail, Tee, Fuzzy, and any of my friends on here, this also goes for you. Just let me know if you are interested in anything I have that I am going to part with.
Wish I could. DH has passed the verdict on me to reduce the flock. He actually wanted them all gone, but I was able to bargain to keep about 10 of them. I'll be typing out a to go list soon, too.
Tee, if your roads are anything like my roads today... I nearly slid into a big iceberg at the end of a cul du sac... freaking icy rear roads. Scared the crap out of me!
I've been getting Tuesdays off so I didn't have to deal with them as much as I otherwise would. I did have to run to G.R. and then up to Stanton so I was running around enough to see that they are crappy. You can see the ice covering the roads. With that and the snow blowing over the roads, tomorrow should a fun one. I'm just glad I'm using my car for delivery right now instead of a mail truck. At least with my car I'll have some control.
