Fuzzy's Farm

Tee, my gosh this last part of winter has been one big sick for you! By the time summer hits all you will remember of the winter is your bed.
I know. It was so nice out the last few days and I would rather be outside getting the yard in shape like Nova is. It's really frustrating. I think the reason it hit me so hard this time is because it was almost on the heels of the last one and my lungs weren't quite recovered from that so it's really walloped me. On a bright note, I do feel better today. I just wish it would stay that way for a more prolonged time. I'm finding I'm wearing out pretty easy with activity which make my symptoms flare so tomorrow is gonna be a rough one. I plan on begging for an easier route for Monday because I have a felling tomorrow might drag me back down a bit.

Anyway, I did get to watch the chickens out the window today roaming all over. They look so happy running around in their groups scratching for bugs, pecking the grass, sunbathing and dust bathing. Oh! DHs mom came to bat for my flock and told DH do not get rid of the chickens. She said it was my hobby and it makes me happy so don't do it. So DH and I have compromised and I agreed to fence in a portion of the side yard that includes the coop, barn and goat pen for their use and DH can have the rest of the yard which he wants for planting. They won't get the access they had to the full yard, but they'll still have a good chunk to roam in.

How's Florus today?

Florus is florus. Lol. He's in his coop. Smart enough to bed down on the floor next to a broody Beulah. He is not worse. That is good for me. I actually locked him in the coop. I put him up. Will take him down in the morning so he's not jumping.

Glad your a bit better. I am stuffed all to... Well, yeah.

Agh. I hate being stuffed up. That's coming and going for me. Usually worse after I wake up from sleeping.

Once I got past the worst of this, DH had me start drinking Ensure and black tea yesterday which might be why I'm feeling better. Last time he did that was back when I had my gall bladder out so that should tell you how bad he thought this got. Usually he thinks I'm just being a baby when I'm sick, but this one had him concerned.

That's good for Florus. Looks like you found another use for a broody as a sick nurse. LOL

I wish I had gotten a pic of him and the broody duo last night. THAT was precious. LOL BUT, too tired to go and get the phone, or the camera.

Gigi, hope your day goes by easy tomorrow. Fuzzy, how's the new job hunt? I know you said you were going to the temp agency... I brought my nephew to his cousins tonight after they finished helping me, and I passed the west ottowa schools bus depot... they are hiring and TRAINING. Wonder if I would be a good bus driver, or if I'd run the bus into a ravine when the kids had me at wits end... LOL. I don't think that's a job for me. I kinda go on auto pilot when I do my route. Listen to my book. I hate to be interrupted. LOL

Looking forward to hitting the sack. have a good night all.

OH! Savannah, if you need me to post, just send the pics along. AND I have you beat on a vet bill.. I had this lovely brit/pyr mutt. When he was a pup, he ate some carpet pad... Ended up having to cut him open to clean him out. THEN had to go in again and clean out a hair clog... Anyway, $3000 vet bill, that I had to pay out of my own pocket. The vet I went to was awesome. They let me make the payments over a 6 week period. Can you say ouch? I didn't hardly eat for that whole time. Good thing that at the time I was taking in 1200 every two weeks and single! LOL Just had to pay rent, bills, car payment and gas for the route... SO... was tight. LOL Some butt wad stole him from me when I was 8 months prego. Left my pitbull, but took my mutt. He was LOVELY! He was named Bere (beer) LOL

Ouch. That's a lot of money. Biggest vet bill I had to pay was when our dog was cut by my DDs friend's dog nail. They were playing in the yard when DD notices a ton of blood on Kenzie's side. She's a whippet and they have thin skin so even though it would have just been a bad scratch on other dogs, it was a big 2 1/2" gash on her. It was the weekend and the vet was closed so we had to take her to the emergency vet in Grand Rapids. Cost $550 to clean it and stitch it up.

Noah's ear has swelled back up and he looks ridiculous with his sock hat on, but it keeps him from shaking it all around... sigh
I am going to try to leave it alone... If it bothers him too much I will drain it again.

SIL and I put up a "step in stake" fence on Thursday before the neighbor got home... I talked to neighbor about it and our conversation was polite and ended nicely... Then she went in and called the land lord to let him know I put the fence up on his property.
He rushed over and had to see and touch the fence and asked if it was cemented in. (It is not)
"You can see that cuts into my property".... The property that BF and I have been maintaining for 2.5 years.
I said that it was not meant as a property boundary but as protection for my family and her family. I told him BF and I had been taking care of the land and I had been cleaning up any messes my dogs had made there AND that we mow right up to that side of her house AND I trimmed a horrible mess of vines off of some very beautiful forsythias that will look gorgeous this year... He informed me that we probably only own a few feet from our garage... so what I thought to be helping maintain between our 2 yards has been maintaining HIS yard.
I was also informed that "fences make bad neighbors"... IMO fences make better neighbors. Maybe even safer ones.
If I was a landlord and was SOOOO worried about what property was MINE, I would have shown the new neighbors moving in what I owned.... in a kind way. "Here is where I will mow to" type of way... you know?
Anyway, I was super sweet through the whole thing but felt bad I didn't have a clue where the property lines were. And felt a little peeved that we have been maintaining this land that is not ours and are now getting a slap on the wrist because I am trying to keep everyone safe.
BF threw a sht fit because he didn't know I was going to do it and now I stepped on the toes of the alcoholic slumlord ON THE DAY BEFORE GOOD FRIDAY NONETHELESS. (I capitalized all that because I found it to be strange day to be offended by a fence... but BF said they might be

)( Can you tell I am not religious?... I do consider myself to be spiritual)
So I went out in the middle of the night and tore the whole thing down.

I hope everyone is/was equally offended by this gesture.

The good news is that BF took down the ridiculous ramp and now I can tie my dogs out one at a time and not have to worry that they are going to hang their stupid rears!!!

Chickens had a great time playing all around the yard today!!! Dust baths for all!!!!
I need to make a sadle with wing flaps for my NN frizzle... Pate loves her long time... and she is the only one showing wear on her wings.
Probably because her feathers are the most brittle to begin with.

You should have left the fence...as long as it was on the property you rent. Then you also now know where you should maintain, nothing more. He was stupid by saying that about fences, but you have to protect your kid as well as your dogs. Screw them all, protect your family. Since it is not a permanent fence, you are not improving or damaging the property. If you get in writing from the LL that you can't put the fence up, and KEEP IT safe stashed, you can then sue his rear end, along with the neighbor when your kid, you, nd gets bit by their lunger. Otherwise put it back up WITHIN your rented property. And many start looking for a new rental property where you can have your birds.

I can't believe how stupid those people acted over a fence. Its for everyone's protection. I don't get it...

I havent been here and I havent read-

but I see the post about noah- I will assume is a dog, and I will assume its an ear hematoma.
I can give some advice-
if its warranted. An ear hematoma is when the blood collects between the layers, if you will- and without treatment, it will cause the ear to shrivel into cauliflower ear. A hematoma is formed when they smack their ear onto a hard surface- shaking their head because of an ear infection, etc.

Our hospital charges close to two grand- incisions are made for the blood to drain out and many buttons are sewn on the front and back of the ear pinna to provide pressure against the ear, and a bandage is applied so, as it heals so the layers close. Without doing it this way, the ear usually fills back up with blood- nothin like an angry owner who brings their dog in for an ear hematoma repair and pays out two grand, and then fourteen days later, the ear is full of blood again.

As I said, if you do nothing, it eventually just shrivels which while it isnt cosmetic, it is much cheaper.
