Fuzzy's Farm

Thanks Savannah. it sounds like your trailer is coming along. You are going to have as many chickens as I do. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all the eggs, lol.

Hi Nova. Glad your jeep is doing better. How's the boy?

So much rain here lately that you slip and slide when you walk into the chick run. And the smell is overwhelming. I hate putting straw down as I just have to rake it up later but I think today I'll throw that and some PDZ stall freshener in. At least the girls will have a dry place to walk. I'm afraid the neighbors on top of the hill are going to get a whiff of it.

So the goats have figured out how to strip the bark off a young tree. Luckily I caught them before they destroyed all the young trees in their pen-just two stripped down to the smooth inner wood. Today I'm going to wrap all the trees with hardware cloth about 4 ft high. Geesh, nothing like living on a farm. Always more to do - ha.

LOL, boy... you want smells... You should come over here. You'd think I lived next to a meat farm... OH wait... I kinda do. I know a lot of people raise their meat birds in a pen for the whole 8 weeks. Its just nasty by the 6th week, and down right pathetic. I don't like that way of growing, and I don't think Carl will do it again this way next time. I raised my birds last year on the grass. As They got older, I raked everyday. Moved the pen also as needed every week until about 6 weeks, because by that time, they were getting pretty sedentary and it was pretty hot for them. Anyway, you didn't have that smell. I don't like it when I drive past those big meat farms, that's why I grew my own... The way nature (as much as nature can be involved with mutant birds) should have it. In the sun, on grass and foraging as much as possible. Well, anyway, the smell that comes off that back pen of his is just attrocious. They were even trying to figure out a way to get the smell down. They keep putting straw in to try and keep the birds cleaner, but finding that's a hard thing to do when it is an open pen to the north and the east, and we just had a monster of a rain storm roll through last week, and then rain again Saturday night. Yup... Makes it not os pleasant in my back yard when the wind isn't blowing it to the east...

Also went through so much feed the last weeks that I am starting to ration to morning feeding and evening feeding. They are going to forage the rest of the day. I really need to get the Marans a run so they can get out of the coop when they want during the morning hours, and not be stuck in the coop till I open it. The neighbors pullets for the last weeks have made a home of my coops and runs during the day, which is kinda funny, they aren't causing any problems or anything like that, but having 20 extra birds show up on the daily was starting to take its toll. Last year, a 50# bag of feed would last me 2 weeks with the nearly 60 birds I had. I have 63 birds right now, 25 of those are chicks, and yeah... 50# lasted a week. Not cool man. LOL. Anyway, they've been rehomed to their new coop on the other side of the neighbors yard, that has an underrun so they will be staying over there for a few days until they are used to their new home. The birds that were in that coop were relocated to the big coop since they are at POL. Anyway, what does this mean to me? I means that for this week, 50# will not go lickety split. AND my poor big boy Strutter is going to not know what to do with out his little white ladies that he herds all together. LOL He would round the neighbors pullets up and yup... Bring them home.

SO... neighbor is thinking of offing his evil roo, he's in love with my Strutter. I have ot get a new pic of Strutter and his ladies. They've finishe molting and OMG, talk about gorgeousness. I also need to get updated photos of the phoenix. The colors... wow. I am bringing several to CS. Hopefully I don't bring them all back home. I know Silly wants a few and she says she is not picky on the colors.

Well, I am off to the land of water and then off to feed store, auto store and work. All in the next hour.

things are going here, but the trailer's not pretty yet. I'm just getting to the parts that you buy that show, mostly.
Definitely nothing i can bring company to, with just subfloor and some parts painted, some parts not. Kitchen that needs gutted in the worst way, no way to save it. Rotted.

A few small victories, the toilet is now in and functional. There is vinyl on the floor in there. I have the miracle of hot water as of last night, and the clearance steal oil rubbed bronze faucet is now in and functioning without leaks....... still have to redo walls, if i can. And put up something for a tub surround, and get the tub hardware in........ bones yet. Here are some of my inspirations for this project:

gonna have to make these, they are gone, if only i'd seen them before......

car needs immediate attention. :( the back brakes don't look as though DH's uncle had done them. :( Now they are dragging and getting ready to stick, not a happy girl. Gonna be a hundred dollar fix, may put the kabosh on my saturday plans. We shall see, if he can get to them.

Are they disks in back or drums? There is a place here that will do them for about 45 if you go in with the parts...

Jeep is running good! FINALLY! I did my whole route today without any water loss or issues at all. Oh, this makes me a happy girl. Now the engine will run another 100k, but I will have no floor to go with it! LOL

Hey Nova.

Looks like I'm joining the car repairs-all-suck-to-heck-club. I got in my delivery car after not being in it for a few weeks (DH has been using it) and it sounds terrible. Lots of creaky/squeaky and a 'wheeee' that sounds like a bearing is going and clicking noise when turning. I have to use it for work tomorrow and I am honestly worried it will fall apart the way it sounds.

Yikes thats not good. Sounds like your cv joints if its clicking when turning. Is that something your hubby can fix or are you going to have to shop it?

All righty... Time for a phoenix pic update. Obviously its not all of them, but some. EVEN Mr. Ed... He's getting so pretty. Definetly a keeper. AND a hen I think will be paired with him if she's not got some more going on than a booboo. (Which I will explain later...)

BUT first...
What you think of this boy? He's got quite a bit of blue/grey/silver... not sure what color you would call him. BUT he is lovely.

A future lady for him... Isn't she gorgeous? So delicate... Love her

Mr. Ed

His hopeful lady... Now... why I think it is an injury (hoping) is the other night when my kid broke his arm, I asked the neighbor kid to put my birds away if I wasn't home by 10. Well, I wasn't and he did. Last night, I was helping them get their birds moved around and he was quite a bit more aggressive than I think was necessary, and I am a bit worried that he may have grabbed her by her leg. She if favoring it very much. Of course she could have done it herself too... But, I just don't know. I will not ask him for help again. I am not happy...
She's so lovely too. The leg she is favoring is the one you see on my hand...

A barred boy, he's a little thing, smaller than the rest.

The one with the funny comb, definitely think it's a boy, look at those wattles. Isn't he pretty?

Another girl for Ed.

Love all the pictures Nova. I love chickens period... Well I had bad day yesterday, my golden retriever Sadie got bit by a snake. Gave her dose of benidryl called vet got her there.... And 168.00 dollars later we got home! Plus while we were there checked her leg she's been favoring and had to have meds for that possibly surgery! :( got baby chicks hatching in next few days, really hoping for a white leghorn roo out of these hens that are setting. Got tired fo running them off nests and let them set. Fuzzy sorry your trailer is slow going. We haven't really got started on ours yet. Wally did roof Sunday afternoon then Sunday night we watched everything he had put on wash down he driveway in a huge rain storm. Talk about being sick... We were! Anyway hope everyone has great day! God bless
