Fuzzy's Farm

ALL RIGHTY THEN!

So... Yesterday was MI Chickenstock as everyone knows... Except maybe Gigi and Savannah. Went on over to Delta Mills Park in Lansing. The drive there was uneventful and no wrong turns were made this time. Got there very shortly after 10 am, found my buds and set to work getting the birds and food out of the car and to where it needed to go. Mom2 brought her foul mouthed Dino and that bird was just a riot. Well, I could not let that bird out do me in the fun dept and I made sure to swear more in the first 30 minutes of being there than Dino did the whole time he was there! Why was this? You may ask... Well... Here come the fun part.

Ya'll know I am a big girl...

Chickens are little. Chickens are fast. Scared chickens are fast and pist off.

I brought a beautiful faverolles cockerel to SillyChicken. I brought him in a box. I brough a bit of fencing with step in stakes so he would not be stuck in a box for the whole duration. I set up the staked fence by a tree, not seeing that there was about a 3 inch gap at the bottom that the little bad word could get through, and get through he did. He ran, he ran for a little island of trees. But that wasn't good enough, no. He ran for the stream. The stream that had a few game trails down to the stream, but was wooded on both sides. Poison ivy was abundant. In we went. I went in, Jace went it.

Did I mention that it was hot and humid? Did I mention that I probably should have covered myself from head to toe in deoderant prior to this trip, but didn't?

So, we get the little bad word out of the trees, away from the stream after much cursing and swearing and sweating on my part. Mom2, one of her kids, me, John, I think RaZ, and a few others helped to surround this guy, using the step in fence, and finally caught him. He bit me. He bit my hand, he bit my neck. He drew blood. He was MAD AS HELLO!

And so... I go to put him in his box, but the box upside down so he can still have grass... he get's loose almost immediately, but a young man managed to catch him by diving for him. Hello with that, he was going in a box, with his food and water in the box and hopefully he'll calm down.

Now, while all this was going on, people found it to be very entertaining to watch. I am sure it was.

I managed to not come home with any birds other than the chicks that I was planning to bring home from Robin. I settled those right in with the Jap Bantams that are 2 weeks old now, and the chcks I brought home were just days old. AND they instantly became a pack. No fighting, nothing. Supremely happy with that.

I also have a pic of birds that I see in my future.

I put a barred phoenix and black hen on the raffle table, and Taprocks son was the last to pick. He wanted to buy the birds, but mom said, no... Well, then he turned around and got to pick the birds off the table, I told him, he needed to make sure it was ok with her first. LOL. I am sure she's not happy with me. Oh... poop... LOL He was happy, heck no, He was DELIGHTED. That makes me happy too.

We got home from chickenstock... it was uneventful that trip. BUT my butt was wet when we got back, because the car has no air... Well it does actually, it's the type that's called, roll all the windows down and drive very fast. I got the car unloaded and went to work. I was in the middle of my Saturday route when the check engine light came on. Then a short time later the battery light came on. I quit the route, went to the parts store and they tested the battery, good. Tested the alternator. Dead. SOBBING HECK! Got a new alternator, went home and spent the next 3-4 hours figuring out how to get the old alternator out and the new one in. Didn't get to eat my steak dinner, and was an hour and a half late getting to work at my press job. So, my day that started out at 6 am Saturday morning didn't finish until 8 am Sunday morning.

What did I discover out of that? I am not as young as I used to be. People my age aren't supposed to stay up all night. People my age who do stay up all night for 26 hours are usually on a substance. I think I have more grey hairs.

On another note... I have the loveliest pic for you all.

Hi everyone.
Gigi, my mom is doing much better and, in fact, was released today to go home. They were able to show her how to do all the stuff she needs to take more care with like getting up/down steps, in/out of a car and so on and said she should be able to handle it. I've talked to her every night and she has been just talking my ears off about it all and asking me all sorts of questions about healing/rehab. I think it's a great thing that I am able to pull from my past experience to help her with hers. She's going through quite a bit of the same stuff I did so she knows that I'm a good source for info and, you know, it gives us a unique bond. That said, I agree with my dad and think she needs someone staying with her during the day. She already took a stumble when trying to get out of bed (she landed back on the bed) and is finding it hard to maneuver the walker around the furniture. But she is a stubborn one and is telling him no.

In chicken news, it's a boy. The lone little chick just had to be a boy. He looks to be an ee/bsl mix which means oddly enough that mama bsl was actually hatching her true baby chick. Pretty neat for throwing random I don't know whose eggs these are under her. Anyway, he's quite a noisy little thing which is why I think mama gets in the yard and promptly goes away. Seriously, his constant squawking is annoying. I will admit it is cute, however, to see him jump up on her back when he finds her again and be carted around until he falls off.
Also, we have lost Goober our bantam sebright/red pyle roo. It's just not right looking out and seeing his 2 ladies without him. I miss his crow a bit, too, but that's just how it goes sometimes.
Anyway, missed out on chickenstock. Had to work. Maybe next year. Nova, sounds like you had a nice time despite your chicken chasing shenanigans. LOL

tee, glad you mom is doing better and a few less worries for you.Glad they showed her the therapy stuff, so less chance if injury. My MIL went in nursing home after she broke her knee for rehab. After she was home for about a week she wished she was back at nursing home. More fun stuff to do then sitting on her rump in front of the TV all day.
My surgery went ok. I'm just glad there are good drugs for after.
I really enjoyed myself at CS. I missed the rooster caper, anyone get that on video?
Dino was a blast until he started to blow his nose on my plate!

Thanks, Rusty. Glad everything went well for you with your surgery.
My mom couldn't wait to get set free which I remember being super happy about, too, back when it was me (I was at Mary Free Bed, though, not a nursing home). But I was just like your MIL. Took me one day before I was miserable and wanted to go back. So far she's not missing it. In fact, she actually questioned using the walker anymore. I swear she's going to be like a little child with this. LOL

I'm so glad your mom is doing well, tee. That's stressful all the way around. I can just see the baby chick riding on mama. Too funny.

And Rusty, glad your surgery was successful. Now just the rehab which is so important.

We just found out that DH has gall stones. Will have surgery in a couple of weeks. At least its during the summer so we can really take care of him when he gets home.

Went out to feed the animals this morning and guess what was on the ground -- a pygmy rattlesnake. We haven't had many poisonous snakes around so I was pretty dismayed as don't want snakes where the grandkids are. Anyway, did him in but I'm pretty upset about it. NOT what needs to be in the barnyard.

Great pics, Nova. Your son is so CUTE! He's going to be a heartbreaker...

Hey Savannah. What's happening?

Hey Fuzzy. How's the home coming?

About all you can do is be vigillant, Gigi. You could try getting some milk thistle, enteric coated peppermint and have him start taking that. The milk thistle will help with size and the enteric coated peppermint will help with the gall and liver spasm.

Rusty, Glad your surgery went well. Hopefully you'll be up and at em soon.

I just got seriously irratate reading the other thread. There's a new guy on there who is a pompous bad word. I am going to have a hard time not pulling an Olive if his self continues to prove to be a clucking glass mole.

I think maybe I will go and steam clean my carpet as I have a really bad attitude right now.

OH... and John's lady friend just puked her guts out in my drive way. Where my chickens like to hang out. My hose doesn't go that far. I hope she's knocked up. Maybe John will move faster if she is. Oh wait... it's not his girlfriend.

Ok so I was always under the impression chickens couldnt fly. As some of you MIGHT remember I bought some red jungle fowl last year. The roo had to go after my wife flipped out when our 2yr old slapped the roo and it hopped on him. I gave him to a nice gentlemen who needed a roo to help protect his 28 ladies from eagles. anyways... so the other day one of the RJF hens was back about 200ft. SHe hopped 4ft straight up then flew right on over to me(standing on the deck) hovered for a few seconds before landing on the railing... I know RJF arent technically modern chickens, but its my understanding they are where chickens came from... so why cant chickens fly? BTW scared the crap outta me when the hen flew up to me.. I thought it was a hawk
