Fuzzy's Farm

So of course I had to go and read the other thread also. Isn't there always someone who just knows it all. Trouble is, they usually know very little but that little is enough for them to think they are all knowing. All I can say is I love all my chickadees-rumpless or not - lol. Let the guy stuff himself with pomposity.

I love my bantams too just running outta room and would rather have big chickens! My 3 month old bantam Roos are crowing! :) they just discovered that they can, they are so funny! Sound like they swallowed a frog! Lol have good evening everyone...

Well.. I wasted a perfectly good day to do yard work. WASTED it. LOL. Ok, I mowed the front lawn and was heading for the back when I ran out of gas. LOL

I got one of my phoenix pullets lost today. I carried her over by the neighbors, because, you just wouldn't believe how soft these girls are. Well, I set her down thinking she'd find her way back to the coop, I mean, it was a straight line back, but... she'd never been that far away. LOL. Then I couldn't catch her again, so we had to herd her back to her area. LOL Silly girl.

I have to turn the waterheater on to get a bit of warm water. We are almost on E on the LP, and I dont' feel like having that stupid thing run every time the water gets to a certain temp... Especially when I can turn it on for a heat up for an hour each night, and save me some money. So far, so good. That and nothing like free hot water at the gym. So, does anyone have an idea for a cheap solor powered outdoor shower? Seriously. Going green here. HEHE

I have 3 broody hens. Beulah decided to go broody too. She's sharing with Little Pretty. I swear, I have the broodiest chickens on the darn planet.

I actually know a guy in Colville WA who uses I think 3 solar panels to heat his water. I will see if I can dig him up and ask for his blueprints.

Well today we discovered our hens in the neighbors yard... Yeah... so we had to run through the neighbors yard chasing the chickens back over the fence while I am sure our neighbors laughed until they pee'ed themselves. Then the fun part... CLipping the wings... Poof(our roo) was NOT amused by the whole ordeal. So we actually had to lock ourselves in the chicken run with 1 hen at a time while he ruthlessly mauled the fencing.

On a positvie note the peepers in the garage have been hopping out of their pen. so since its going to b 60 at night and 90 during the day... we put em outside int eh isolation pen to get to know the big kids.

Maybe it was chicken liberation week!

After mine got out they all now crowd around the gate whenever I'm near. I'm sure they are wanting another chance at the big world.

LOL. See, there IS some use to hugging and treating. Trailer's coming slowly but surely. I ended up giving my pretty coop back to TSC. :( I didn't want to, but i wanted to set myself up for bills better. In a twist of irony, i finally broke down and asked my office if i could have a pet hen, and she said yes! Woot!

so now trying to figure out what to put hope in that will hold some kind of bedding?

It is looking like me being so tired Sat may be the beginning of a bad viral infection my boss has spread around
. :( Fighting it with every thing i have, but starting to worry. Also kinda P.O'd since this isn't a normal viral and it is essentially due to her not following infection control. :( Seriously re-thinking this line of work. :(

(adenoid virus, aka "killer cold", also responsible for some UTI's, ear infections, pink eye, and of course the viral pneumonia. )

Nova you are not the only chicken chaser! Lol! That's all I've done for past couple days! My two 3 month old that hatched out a maran and white leghorn that I was soooo proud of that I thought were hens, well lets start here yesterday morning my hubby and I were drinking our coffee out side and we hear this weird noise, Wally says wow the neighbors have got some goats! We keep listening he goes over to the fence to snoop over to see the goats, well guess what wasn't no darn goat, it was my two chickens I thought was hens for sure learning to crow! Lol so now I'm over ran with too many roosters. So my beautiful white leghorn is not a hen but a Roo! So not happy! But I've been chasing chickens and ducks also. Have one hen that's acting strange not sure of she's sick or got a mean streak in her all of a sudden , she keeps attacking my Peking duck every time she see it, any idea what's going on? She keeps puffing herself up all the time too? Help!!!!

OH, sounds to me like she may be hankering to go broody!

No offense, but eat them boys. They are young enough right now that they'll make a nice little dinner for you and the hubby...

Lost an egg yesterday to a toe it looks like. Poor little baby inside, I was so upset. I was getting the fresh eggs from under Little Pretty, and pulled one out that was developing, had a hole. SO... I looked, and was like, bad word! The chick was still alive, but the membrane had been completely punched through. If it wasn't I would have considered waxing it over in that spot and crossing my fingers. BUT NO! It had to be all the way through... Poor baby... Sh... it happens...

Fuzzy, I am glad you are going to be able to get your hen. Sounds like you are having a devil of a time on your remodel... Were you expecting it ot be so much when you got it? Hope you get it finished soon, can come for a visit then.

About the hen, how about getting a washer machine pan, drilling a few small holes around the lip, add a 2x6 frame around it, so it brings it up higher, you'll still be able to lift it, for cleaning, and you can build a 2x2 or 2x1 (firring strips are this size) aviary frame, use a light plastic fencing around that... Kinda like how I built my brooder... all 2x2s... a 2foot by 4 foot box... anyway... I'll draw it out, what I mean then upload it here...

I have let the phoenix have free run now. They are holding their own, and all is well in their world. EXCEPT when Blue Berry thinks she needs to roost in their door frame. LOL

I think your right about her wanting to be broody, the other two marans are on eggs now and I kept getting her off nest didn't want more chicks. I locked her out of where the two are on eggs, locked everyone out. Now another problem one of the bantam chicks that hatched Friday, other chicks was pecking her and she was bleeding all over head I took her out. And now I have one lone tiny chick that's doing good probably going to only have one eye, but it's very unhappy. It's eating and drinking. Tryed to put it back in with mama and baby's but attacked her worse than before. Help?.
