OH, sounds to me like she may be hankering to go broody!
No offense, but eat them boys. They are young enough right now that they'll make a nice little dinner for you and the hubby...
Lost an egg yesterday to a toe it looks like. Poor little baby inside, I was so upset. I was getting the fresh eggs from under Little Pretty, and pulled one out that was developing, had a hole. SO... I looked, and was like, bad word! The chick was still alive, but the membrane had been completely punched through. If it wasn't I would have considered waxing it over in that spot and crossing my fingers. BUT NO! It had to be all the way through... Poor baby... Sh... it happens...
Fuzzy, I am glad you are going to be able to get your hen. Sounds like you are having a devil of a time on your remodel... Were you expecting it ot be so much when you got it? Hope you get it finished soon, can come for a visit then.
About the hen, how about getting a washer machine pan, drilling a few small holes around the lip, add a 2x6 frame around it, so it brings it up higher, you'll still be able to lift it, for cleaning, and you can build a 2x2 or 2x1 (firring strips are this size) aviary frame, use a light plastic fencing around that... Kinda like how I built my brooder... all 2x2s... a 2foot by 4 foot box... anyway... I'll draw it out, what I mean then upload it here...
I have let the phoenix have free run now. They are holding their own, and all is well in their world. EXCEPT when Blue Berry thinks she needs to roost in their door frame. LOL
