Fuzzy's Farm

I cleaned out the coop and laid down a few bales of clean straw when the weather broke for a min, but now it's back in the single digits! Brrr! So not so much chicken time as i'd like because my poor toes can't handle being out very long.

I'm ready for Sping.

I am cheating and putting antibiotics in the water at this point. Not taking chances! Either i'm going back to the duramycin or i'm doing tylan and getting some cranberry jello powder to mask the flavor. (some site recommended cran juice; this seems cheaper and more feasible)

What makes me sad isn't the temps, it's the fact that i know that many people didn't listen to warnings NOT to use heat lamps for their birds, and if/ when they lose power in something this severe THOSE birds will die. :(

Fuzzy - this statement isn't necessarily true. I use heat lamps in all my pens and always have. Although it has been trying with the many times I have lost my elec for almost a week at a time, I have only lost 3 birds because of it. They have gotten sick and I had to treat them but I only lost 3. And they were Silkies. And I have close to 100 of them. The key to this is to invest in a generator. My the theory is if you are going to use heat in the winter then you owe it to them to make this investment. I have 3 generators and am going to invest in another one. 2 dedicated to my birds. :)

sorry, should have clarified.

Hey, no problem. I knew it wasn't directed toward me lol. People need to be responsible. After all , we choose to have them so it is our job to do right by them.
Just sayin lol

I am thinking about dropping the other thread again, but the newbs do need help and info........ but some of them seem to think we who have been there a bit are intimidating........ you haven't met me in person yet but i have no shred of intimidation in me, LOL. Just a softie for animals. Idk. Seems like a few are spoiling for a fight? Just worrying i guess, seems like every winter someone loses their birds during a power outage. (Or the coop fires)

Now you can see why I am no longer on these threads. You've always got the " know it alls" and the ones who just want to argue. I do well on my own. Don't need their advice or arguements so I just mostly go on FB. That way if I don't like what you say I can just delete people and visa versa.
No time for the kid games on these threads.

Hi. I have to say your thread is one of the first ones I started to read when I joined and who led me to the michigan thread. I enjoy reading that thread but I will never post there again. I don't post on anything I don't have experiance on wether it be good or bad. I was simply trying to make friends with people who like chickens and animals as much as I do and might be around my age. Everyone around where I live that have chickens are old farmers and they keep dying on me. I value your chicken insight and thank you for sharing it with all that welcome it as I do. I meant now disrespect towards anyone in my posts on the other thread and I hope I have not offended you as I am the one who made the imtimidating remark. I pull for each and everyone of you through your troubles and cheer for the triumphs. I just don't post it. Once again I am truly sorry if I offended you. Hope you have a good weekend. Margie
