Fuzzy's Farm

I have my abandoned silkies in the brooder... They were abandoned... The Cripple chased them out of her coop after her chicks hatched, the Skeeter chased them out of the garage... I didn't get a chance to make the shuffle today that I wanted. The door was more work than we expected..

Night!

I'm watching the Will Ferrell SNL special. I NEED MORE COWBELL! lol, but that was Christoper Walken too. Both of them are hilarious though lol.

Fuzzy! Those porcelains look fabulous! And the hen in the first picture looks like a hawk- in fact I thought she was, until I looked at the other pictures!

Good job!

Ive been up since three. My dog wanted out- the Golden. And when we walked out the back door- I could hear something tearing up wood- I figured coons. Flipped on the garage light- oops, my son isnt home *he is staying in the garage*- and I couldnt find the flash light. SO, I had to be brave. And I had no idea where my pit was- he never leaves my side at might. SO, I had to be very very brave and go behind the garage without my pit, and no flashlight...nobody but the dumb Golden even knows I am outside at three am....

And behind the garage was my pit- he had my grape vines completely tore down. *sigh* But he was jumping at the privacy fence. Thats the sound I heard of tearing up wood- his nails on the fence. I have no idea how long he has been out here, never heard a sound. He knows how to let himself out the back door. I think he taught himself because he got tired of waiting for me to get up from whereever I am to let him outside. Anyhow- I didnt have a flashlight to see what he had treed so I had to get REAL close to see what it was. I figured a coon would have ran off, a human could only be on the other side of the fence, skunks dont climb-so it had to be a oppossum. And oh was it ever! BIG one- not like the one my dog killed weeks ago.
I went in the house and got a flash light, scanned the yard, the coop, the chickens yard- nothing around. I called the dogs in. If the oppossum has any brain, it will leave by way of the privacy fence- using the neighbors yard.
Dogs just went out again- but its been an hour that I have had them inside. If the oppossum is still there- then its real dumb. My dog was so out of breath-panting when I made them come in, he could have been out there for hours. Im going to be pretty tired today, 3 is a crazy time to start the day.

I had a friend lose a grown hen to an opposum. He just basically turned it inside out from what we could see. We found him in the feed tub though, just eating away. I've seen that happen a lot with people out here that DON'T have predator proof coops (why, I do not know) and do free choice feeding. That was the only time I've seen them hurt a chicken, and he came for the grain anyways.

We had one a few weeks ago that went in the coop when I was going to close the door, but he didn't hurt anybody before the dogs killed him......

Aaaagh. I finally found out what my favorite hen was mixed with, the one that died.
Bad news is she was a mutt of a very rare and expensive breed..........What i can't figure is how she ended up at that middle-of-nowhere auction? In poor condition, no less. But i am dead nut sure on this one. For that matter, how did my part buttercup roo end up there?

So guess who's going to have to save a ton? I have not owned another like her, and believe me when i say i have looked! I always buy the people friendly birds, but none compared to her absolute girlish neediness.............. We did everything together. I have her daughter, but i need more of that blood if i want to start my breeding project proper. I don't know how far i can dillute the line before i lose the character and unique shape.................

Also they are the only ones that have always followed me around like puppies. Usually about 3 months they take off and don't want to be cuddled anymore, not these guys. Igor on the bottom watches me throw scratch and then comes up and waits to eat out of my hand. If I am standing up he hops to try and get it out of my hand.
