Ms B Cut a long sleeve off a shirt and stretch it over his body with his head sticking out where the hand should go... You might even be able to stuff his feet in. That makes everything so much easier!

Ok, I'll definitely try that. He does not like having Q-tips in his mouth (honestly I don't blame him....)

Whenever he crows he kinda bends over and tries to stick his head between his legs. He sits like that for about 30 seconds then stands up like nothing ever happened. It sounds weird too. Like, extra squeaky......... I've never seen anything like it....

we made it thru so far incubator and all ... no snow here yet .. think we might get out of the snow because of Sandy ... got a tree down behind the coop but nothing in it as far as I know .. haven't been up long cause i stayed awake watching the power and incubator as long as i could ..... today is supposed to be hatch day havent seen a pip yet but did have a temp spike last week that worried me .... so i havent checked on all the big guys yet .... kinda afraid to go out there to be honest ... although i have heard a crow or two ...and an egg song ...

all is ok out there before i go look ... still have a steady light rain going ... and muddy messes everywhere .... ty all for the prayers

that is funny right there !!!!

EVERYONE OK !!! They are damp and muddy but ok ... and the duck laid me a soft shelled egg this morning !!! the kids do noit think it is as neat as i do ....now that winds are gone maybe we can retarp and plastic everything and it might actually stay put for the winter !!!! ONe grateful chick here that things were not worse .... no pips in the bator yet but still hopeful as today is hatch day ... temp was little on low side so increased it a little and since i had no pips yet added a little more water to stabilize the humidity ....

Gosh, if you could get a video, that may be helpful. Can you do video with your cell?

Wonder if he's got an air sac infection or something. Is he wheezy?

He's not wheezy. He breathes normally. He doesn't seem lethargic (he did last night), his eyes are clear and normal, his comb is it's normal color, he's preening himself, his poop is a little runny, but nothing really out of the ordinary and it doesn't smell horrible. I got him open his beak but he was moving his tongue around so I couldn't really see, but it looks like the red thing isn't as big as it was before. As in, it's a little narrower, but that might just be my imagination............

He's really normal except the red thing, the weird crow, and the bending over.....

I guess I'm not ready for winter...I'm crabby.

For gapeworm - to check to be sure they have it, hold them in your lap, and take a Q-tip - open their mouth, then gently and slowly push the q-tip back into the back of their mouth, whle rotating it. Do the same when bringing it back out. If they have gapes, you'll see them on the q-tip (they are very small/thin and appear to have TWO heads).

Wynette, could i paste this to my "worming section"? This is one that i haven't had to deal with yet, so i don't know much about it other than what to look for, and what the links say to do.

Mrs B, i hope whatever it is you can get him fixed! Losing a friend is never easy.

I added this useful link to the worming and lice/mites section, sorry i haven't been working on my notes lately! Soon my hours will drop and i will be able to finish that section! This outlines each type of worm and whatnot, tells what med in particular has been used successfuly to treat.

I actually finally found out what louse i'm dealing with here, it's the shaft louse! Not that it makes a huge difference, but i like to know my enemy
