So, what color you think she/he is? I can not tell by the comb yet, since it isn't the right color either, if it is a boy or girl. It is still pretty flat, but this one is huge in comparrison to Carmel...

Carmel and Roger Jr. Who would have though, a black with gold leakage, and a white hen would produce a Carmel? She's got blue in here. Roger Jr. is starting to get white in his wings! He also has a lot of red in his face and ears.

And all four silkies with Skeeter. She lives with the silkies. See what I mean also about the black one being very nice in black. Not a blue black, but BLACK.

Hi everyone. Thanks, fuzzybut love, for starting this thread. I hope no one minds me telling a short tale.

This morning, when I was starting school, I saw my 2 half grown silkies out in the yard, eating grass. Well, a few hours later, I go back into the yard and they were gone! I looked everywhere! We have 41/2 acres of grassy land, and it would be impossible to find them. Or so I thought. I was near tears when I found them. I found them under a board that was just a little off the ground where they could squeeze in under it, and stay out of the hot sun, and away from the bigger, meaner chickens. So, just telling this tale. I a sooooooooooooooo indescribably happy that I found them!

He he, i would have been into tears! My birds have worried me a few times, but usually it is just that they discovered a new place to dig a hole and roll in it

Well, got some genetic whizzes to answer my color questions, the true name for my old rooster's color is "gold". Not silver duckwing! I kinda wondered, since silver duckwing is so much blacker in the chest! Roosters can carry both silver and gold genes, but hens can only be silver or gold. So he is silver carrying gold, as is his son. Bad news is that gold roosters aren't dilluters, so though he can throw gold or silver hens he can't dillute them to a "lemon" color. As a rule. EE's are known to carry odd mixes genetically though, so anything is possible!

I am still doing a wait and see on the little pale rooster, as he has a lot more buff in his feathers than dad did! A gold rooster only has gold in the saddle and hackles. A gold dillute has pale buff all over..................

Aw, I'm glad you found them! I just found my Buff Orpington today. She likes to hide in the barn to lay eggs, but she's been gone for a week. Then I found some buff feathers in the yard the other day, and I figured she came out of hiding and something got her. But of course, as soon as I give up, she's out in the yard all puffed up dinosaur screaming at everybody.

If I can't find her nest I guess we'll have chicks!

Well, got the chicken chores done. Only takes minutes now... Just scrape, turn, add, fill... Done. Lol. We'll see how we like deep litter in a few...
