They really are gross. I have had to have my vet remove several from my cats through the years. He called them wolfs. Man it freaked me out the first time I saw one and still does.

This is possibly the most disgusting and unnerving thread I have read on this site. I'll NEVER get back to sleep now.

ETA: I had to, just HAD to do a search on these horrible things. It appears that the human botflys are in central and south America, although some accidental infestations can occur from other forms. It appears Iowa is pretty safe, tho, so THANK GOD FOR IOWA!!!

It's fairly easy to remove the bots alive, cover the area with a thick layer of petroleum jelly, and wait for it to crawl up for air, then remove.
After the bots removal, use a flavor injector(minus the needle) filled with hydrogen peroxide and rinse the cavity out. Then fill the cavity with an antibiotic cream. Daily, until wound is closed, repeat the rinse and cream treatment, while checking the area for flystrike.

She seems to be feeling better this morning. I asked her if she got lonely last night. I don't think she did. HEHE.

I guess it's a good thing I didn't post pics.

It was gray with black lines going around it. The pic i found when I googled it looked exactly the same. The artical said that rabbits mostly get them but cats can if they hang out around rabbit holes. I'm just glad WE can't get infected. I would have to be put in a padded room . . . . . . . . . .

You got it. We had that problem in KY. bot fly larvae. Keep it clean and covered in antibiotic ointment.

Sounds like a weavel to me .. Have had to remove them many times from kittens and puppies , the vet I worked for we would get the largest part out and then spray Peroxide in the hole, have tweezers ready , the worm will come up for air and you can usually grab it then, do this a few times until you don't see any more moving.. I don't remeber giving antibiotics for these but I may be wrong .. They are viscious things and can burrow into the animals brain

I like the ideas from the above poster.. It's been awhile since Ive had to deal with one..
