GAH Can't decide...Mille Fleur Cochins or Silkies?! HELP!

My silkies have NEVER been picked on by large fowl; the silkies are the ones who are FAR more likey to terrorize the others (most don't, but I do have a few hens who sure will!)

A silkie will bond as readily to a cochin friend as to a silkie friend if you raise them together. Depending on the height of your roosts, the silkie may eventually roost with the cochin, or the cochin may choose to snuggle on hte floor with the silkie.

And for all you cochin lovers, I have had both and would choose silkies hands down. I don't dislike cochins, they simply don't sing to my heart like a silkie does.

If you are looking to breed them, I'd start out with silkies. MF cochins are a frustrating color and it will drive you crazy but every time you incubate you can't WAIT to see what hatches out, LOL. If you like frustration and torture, go with MFC. If you like it more predictable, go with silkies.

Oh no! More confusion! Hahaha

I really would love one of each...that's kind of the pattern we have going right now, one of each breed. Our roost is pretty high though. It's 3 feet off of the ground BUT it has a ramp up to it AND a poop counter underneath it to walk on.

I don't plan to breed or show and will be clipping the silkie's eye feathers so they can see, if that's what it comes down to.

I just need a bigger coop you guys! Actually, I wish I could trial run the silkies, hahaha

Cochins all the way. Cochins can move around better, go broody and do not have the issues with a moldy/lice ridden crest that prevents the bird from seeing. Then there's also the issue of getting the crest wet while drinking....bleck.

haha!

Langshans are BIG!

No way around it! Even as bantams they are at the larger end of the spectrum. I think the OP is after something soft and cuddly! But if she was after the most awesome birds ever, I'd tell her to go with a Langshan!

True...very, VERY true. Start out so small and cute and then become giant hippos.

Issue with bantams is that very few people have them. One day though...it is my goal to raise all varieties and sizes of Lanshans.

I "think" I have an addiction...

OP, just to throw in there, have you SEEN bantam Langshans?

Not as much foot feathering as the Cochin but awesome temperaments? But then again, they only come in 3 colors: blue, black and white.

Haha nope! Never even heard of them. I just looked at your pictures though

. I have no idea where I would get one of those here! What sets them apart from all the other breeds?
