Gah. Stupid Poodle Doing It Again!!!

I would crate him, and if he was ever out "in the house" he would be tethered to me (no more sneaking!).

Gotta agree with crate training him. Even if it doesn't help potty train him at least he is confined. And when you're home, make sure you know where he is at all times. If you're watching TV have him laying down where you can see him. Keep him under control and become his alpha. It's amazing when you start making making them sit or lay down for a while and not move, what you can accomplish. If he already knows how to do these things start making him do them for longer periods of time. You have to be very repetitive and stern without becoming irrate. They like when they can push your buttons until they learn to respect you. Then everything becomes easier.

I have always been a big dog owner, but 4 1/2 years ago I for some strange reason got my first Poodle. I mean I wouldn't be caught dead owner a frufru dog. Now I love them. They are high strung though and yes they are so smart they can seem down right stupid. It took quit a while to house train my mail, but then it hit me. Tiny dog, so he just couldn't hold it that long. Took some time, but it finally sunk in. You know it's harder to hold a 4 lb dog down that a 120 lb dog? LOL

Anyway I was thinking maybe his size is the problem, but don't know how big your's is.

I shocked my husband when I had to Masti pups housebroken in 2 days. They were the first pups we had together when we first got married. Pups are easy though. Plus been doing this for over 40 years now (ouch) and I make sure I have all the time I need to get things started as soon as I get a pup, so I have an advatage from the get go.

An older dog with a bad habit is a little tougher, but it can be done. Sometimes they just need a few reminder and like i said a bunch of sits and downs, to show who owns who.

How ever it turns out I hope you two can live comfortably together soon.

Now if I can figure out a way to get the chickens to stay in the yard and not my patio..............YES!

Sounds as if this dog knows how much you dislike him and is doing things to spite you. Do him a favor and have him euthanized. Apparently he is very unhappy with you. Dogs are not unaware of our feelings.

I promised my mom and I do NOT hate him. In fact, I treat him better than ANY of those at the rescue did. He has a good quality of life and enjoys making me angry. He's almost like a rebellious teenager trapped in a miniature poodle's body.

If he hated me so much, he would have already ripped my throat out as he slept by my side under the covers...

lol are you under stress right now if so then he could be picking up on that and doing things just because he can. I hate poodles I have since one bit me as a kid. they seem to know how to push buttons and then look really innocent when they are caught doing something wrong good luck and its sweet that you promised your mom that you would care for the dog.

He is 12 years old, there's a good possibility that he has a medical problem. He KNOWS he's now supposed to go in the house, hence the hiding.... but maybe he CAN'T hold it?? If you can't afford a vet, try a capful a vinegar in his food and a cranberry pill daily. If he's having UTI problems, this will help.

The poop? No..he's not hiding the poo. He has this "walk." When he poops he has to "walk" to get it all out. It's kind of like watching a walrus walk while pooping. I can only assume that he does it to help the muscles move the feces out. So, when he's walking, it just kind of drops here and there. Hence "Easter Eggs".

Now, as for his urine, I have tried to figure out for YEARS how his urine is so yellow. It also has a really musky scent. My male labs have never had that smell with their urine. I may try the cranberry thing, but cranberries make me go more often, wouldn't it make him go more often and have more mistakes in the apartment?

My lab, when he did have an accident would always go at the door. Why would Pogo go and search for things to mark instead of doing it at the door?

I have 3 or 4 dogs that do the walk-n-poop, it's just something some dogs do.

The cranberry shouldn't make him go more often if it's helping his urinary tract. If his pee is very yellow then he doesn't drink enough water and that makes his pee concentrated and smell stronger. I have one pup that is on a permanent regimen of vinegar and cranberry daily. He was piddling in the house just enough to relieve himself and once I got the vinegar and cranberry into his system that stopped. He can now hold it 12+ hours if he has to. Remember, these type treatments don't work right away, they take time to get into the system.

Why would he not drink enough water? It's offered 24/7?

Sorry, I'm not trying to be uptight about it, just trying to figure out what's going on. He looks so innocent when he's asleep...
