GAHHHHHH! What To Do For Car Sick Pup??

My service dog used to get car sick. They make tablets you can give them, or ask your vet. They tend to get over it by a year old. The tablets worked greets for my dog. Pet calm or something like that. Best never to feed them before a car ride too.

I have a sensitive stomach and used to get motion sickness all the time. Ginger snaps do help. It's all I eat for cookies anymore.

Dramamine is safe but sedating. The dog may be less open to socializing and playing when you get where you are going. Sometimes the important thing is getting there though since every good ride helps overcome the psychological causes of motion sickness. Also the front of the car is better than the back of the car but that's hard to do with a dog in a crate. I was not allowed in the very back of a van or suv until I was 10.

You can get rescue remedy and ginger tablets at a health food store, Vitamin Cottage etc. I give my dogs rescue remedy when they are barky at night. It seems to help a little.

My friend's dog used to puke every time she drove more than a mile. She just eventually grew out of it. When my friend does longer drives, she uses the crate - just helps the pup feel safe.

Good luck!

I use Bonine with my pups who get car sick. Works the same as Dramamine but does not sedate them. I've used it for years, safely!

Worse thing is for her to continue to get sick in the vehicle as she will soon associate the vehicle with getting sick. Vicious cycle and harder to break!

Try to give the Bonine an hour or two before travel. Use a crate to confine her in the vehicle and limit her line of sight.

Send her here to play with Kane? Yep, I thought (hoped?) he would grow out of it. He was puking on the trip home from the breeders and he's puked on every car trip since. Last week on his trip to the vet he outdid himself. We had purposely not fed him before the visit. He managed to puke up food from the night before. *Picture Gritty standing on the side of the highway wiping dog barf out of the back of her jeep*

Vet told us to give him dramamine before car trips. He took the dramamine and multipied it into more barf.

Now we just carry a large roll of paper towels, a package of wet wipes and a trash bag on every trip.

DH won't let me nag him into taking the boys to Florida with us. I dunno why.

LIke the human cookie?

Yes! My grandmas dog would always get car sick so she bought a bag of ginger snaps. Gave her bits of the cookie during the ride, especially when the drool started forming. It took a few weeks but the dog isnt car sick anymore and it was inexpensive
