I have one of those automatic chicken waterer's made of galvanized metal, that uses a vacuum to hold the water in. Problem with mine seems to be the vacuum is too good. The chickens drink the water, and the water won't come into the tray. I've searched the forum and everyone else seems to have the opposite problem, too much water. How can I fix this?

Whatever you do don't add AVC to the waterer = chemical reaction. You may want to call the manufacturer to see if you need a "vent".

I prefer plastic with the Horizontal Nipples which I learned need to be vented. Wasn't in the instructions but when the water wouldn't come out unless I cracked the lid, then it dawned on me. So I drilled a small hole about an inch below the rim. Works great :love

I have a old spare galvanized waterer to illustrate.
After filling the waterer, twist to lock. 20190510_173853_kindlephoto-2276837.jpg .
In the next photo you will see a hole at the bottom, that's the vent. 20190510_172248_kindlephoto-1358189.jpg .
Place the waterer level or slightly tilted, so the vent is tilted up. Then lift by the handle till you feel the cover lift slightly and leave it. Check water level and adjust tilt as needed. GC
