It's like one of those things where if taken in small doses, can be beneficial to your health..... like alcohol, lead, cyanide, etc. OK, I'm not sure about the last 2 but, you get the point. Hahaha.It's perfectly fine for fencing. It's been used in feeders for decades. As noted above, the zinc (the metal used to galvanize) can leach out. In large quantities it can be bad, the amount actually consumed is minute. Personally I use plastic feeders/waterers, but not because of the zinc. I just find plastic easier to keep clean.
In small amounts zinc is an essential mineral and can be found in feed and vitamins.
