Hi all. We are using this shelter at home time to pursue something I have always wanted - to have hens! We are just working on setting up their space now and I’m wondering what the best material for feed and water containers would be - plastic or galvanized tin? I only plan to have about 4 hens. We live in Georgia, so hot summers. TIA!!

I have the Grandpa’s feeders to cut down on the chow I feed the mice... During the winter (we are in southern Ohio and usually have below freezing winters), I supplement with a little chow in a rubber tub so everyone gets warmed up first thing in the morning. But then I have to bring the rubber tub in at night.

For waterers, I have three options, depending on the temps. Cold weather, I break out the galvanized with a heated base. Hot weather they have a choice of the drip waterer (five gallon bucket with pvc piping and nipples) or the plastic. Depends on whether I think they need a little “chicken Gatorade.” We also get well over 90 degrees and always have at least 50% humidity.
