Galvanized Water Can...HELP!

That also happened with mine =[. I was starting to go look at it every 2-5 hours and move it or try to kinda shake it a bit to get the water out. I went and bought another and it works perfect! It might have been like mine . If your son still has the receipt maybe you can go exchange for another

Knock wood, mine work fine so far. I have a 3-gal. one in the coop and a 5-gal. one in the yard. The 3 gal. one is hanging (oops!) and the 5 gal one is on bricks. Sometimes water dribbles over the edge for a few minutes, sometimes the water level is only about halfway. I figured it was barometric pressure or something. A little while longer, it always is fine.

Taking off the outer sleeve: I carry it over to the hose, turn the outer sleeve so it is lined up to pull straight off. Tilt the can and let the water in the lip run out. (This breaks the vacuum, I think.) Then lift off the outer sleeve.

I only fill ours about halfway. I figure after a day or a day and a half, my chickens want cool, fresh water. Any longer than that and the under water surfaces start to feel a little slippery, and I figure it might not be the most hygienic. (Of course these are animals that peck at everything, even pooh, so...)

I have one, but I don't know where it came from, I bought it used. On mine, the water comes out of a small brass tube that is soldered to the inner sleave at the very bottom. Sometimes that tube get clogged. I rinse and fill it everyday anyaways, this is my outside waterer for the chickens that are free ranging. I have never had it overflow or run dry. I have mine set on a log that I partially burried and left 10" out of the ground with the top of it level. When I put it there, I always make sure that I push DOWN on it so the outer sleave is flush on the bottom of the tray. I don't have a TSC arround here, so I don't know if the one they are selling has the brass tube.

I have a double walled 3 gal galvanized job. It has a handle on the top, so I hang it. If I don't hang it, the chickens stand on it and poop into the water. YUCK!!!! If I hang it, they don't sit on it.

So, I guess I'll keep hanging it.... haha!

Question - Do any of you using the metal water containers have an algee problem with them? I bought one of the plastic ones, it works fine for watering, but I get an algee buildup on the interior of the main container. I'm assuming it is because sunlight can get through the opaque plastic. I'm wondering of the metal containers would solve some of the algee issues.

I don't get green algae on mine. It does get a film on the inside of the tank and pan. I change the water everyday and wipe it out about every other day, so I dont get any build up.

If you use organic apple cider vinegar, you will not have algae problems. You should use plastic waterers with ACV, no metal.
