candle the eggs and see where the air cell is. It should stay in one place of the egg but if it moves about freely as you turn the egg then the postman did serious damage.
The last lot of eggs I candled them and could tell straight away 4 were not going to make it because of a dislodged aircell and none of them did.

I have found the smaller eggs to be more fragile than bigger eggs, it's a bigger risk getting them through the post intact as a result
I candled and so far 1 has a detached air cell and it looks like a majority of them have no air cell? I don't know if I'm looking right.

Yeah unfortunately these were Serama eggs so they are all small. I'm hoping it least 1 makes it.

IMO, the USPS carrier needs a different job. Yes, I know the role has unrealistic demands and the work culture is terrible, but he's not doing his job. 😡

A couple of years ago, I could get shipped eggs and have good hatch rates...the last 3 shipments of eggs over the past year resulted in exactly zero hatching. They tried to develop, but couldn't hatch. Air cells were terrible, and I spent a lot of time babying the eggs (upright, cutdown cartons, etc.) to no avail - the shipping destroyed them.

In short, a viable alternative to the pretty much completely dysfunctional USPS is needed. It's bad enough that "efficiencies" like automation mean that clearly-labeled boxes containing hatching eggs get tossed around by machines, but to have an employee behave like that...no.

Ok, off my soapbox now. 😉 I hope you'll be luckier than I've been and that despite USPS's best efforts to thwart you, you still have a good hatch!
I really wish there was an alternative. Just everything else is so damn expensive. Like a ridiculous amount.

This never seemed more real.
That clip is funny and so very true, but nothing funny about the way your package was treated. I'd be pretty upset with the local PO over it. Actually our PO is used to us letting them know when these sorts of incidents occur, which is often unfortunately because they have a high turnover rate with the carriers for some reason. Last week a package that contained a gift for DH was showing delivered but MIA. There went the surprise cause I had to run immediately to the PO to find out they delivered it to the wrong house (they can check via GPS location when it was scanned). It was supposed to be tracked down and delivered to our front door but I guess it PO'ed the carrier because they crammed the package inside the mailbox instead. But at least we got our package... 😖

I've already filed a claim with my post office. Although the clerks seemed to be more interested in defending their coworkers than actually addressing my concerns. I pretty much have to handle it elsewhere.

I also let the seller know what had happened. They offered to replace the eggs and allow for me to pick up from the office at my convenience.

that was very nice of the seller but wasn't really their fault.

Ours is really very nice and has gone out of their way to help us in the past, it's a small town PO and it helped that we worked to build a relationship with them so we know everyone by name and vice versa.

But I know what you mean about unfriendly post offices. Before we moved we had two other post offices nearby. One of them I am banned from ever entering the premises again because I asked them to scan my online prepaid packages for acceptance, and they refused. 😅 We had a scan sheet for 150-200 packages, I forget exactly how many but it was a lot. We had already done all the hard work of packing, weighing, printing labels. They literally only had to scan one single barcode. It was just too risky to ship without the acceptance scan because we'd had some lost in the past and we told them this as well but they still refused. So we took our packages back, were loading up the car and the post manager came running out yelling at us that we were banned for life. 😢

At our city's main PO headquarters I had one package to ship out, it was a vintage pair of paperweight thermometer hygrometers that were really pretty neat and still worked. I asked for an acceptance scan. The cashier gave me the dirtiest most annoyed look ever, scanned it for acceptance, and then calmly turned and football throw slammed it straight into a wall. Everyone in the PO at the time stopped and stared at her in shock. Two days later they arrived broken. It just broke a piece of my heart tbh, I had really liked those items... and to see what became of them...ugh. I spoke with the head master to no avail. They refused to do anything directly about the incident. So I filed a claim and reported them to the postal inspectors. Dunno if anything was ever said or done regarding the cashier because she continued to work there for years after that. She's probably retired now with benefits...
