thank you, but we can't be near the incubator all the time, like today when I'm busy I forget controlling the bator and when i look at it, wow, reach 40 deg celsius. make me "cold sweating" to wonder how hot to become inside those eggs.

Temp fluctuations happen. No telling how warm they got inside, so just keep your fingers crossed (do you know this expression?) and hope for the best.

I can't wait to hear how candling goes! Will it be 10 days by the end of the week?

@ wegotchicken : of course they're fluctuating everytime, since I don't have any thermostat and the cheapest i can find is worth US$30

and the worse is that my incubator made of triplex so they can't hold heat better than styrofoam made one. now temp is 37,9 deg with fluctuation between 37,6-38,3 (in 3 hours). em, finger crossed? em, that means X ? what's that? i never heard that over here. can you explain it? oh, i started incubating it on 12 august, em, how did we count? now in indonesia today is 17 august, so it is entered 5 days or 6 days? do we included 12 august in the count? how about the 17 august? sorry if the question is too long. thank you.

by the way, as information, in this 2 days, the electricity keep running without suffer of power outages. don't be too happy tough. cause today is indonesia's independence day so power company often not to shut down power for important event, not because power company "bow" to important event/day. but because many factory and company is out of service so there are power surplus then we can get free power outages and those eggs will be the happiest one since they won't "suck" those carbon monoxide from my kerosene lamp.

edit: word correction : cheaper to cheapest.

oh, i'm going to update more photos now, maybe not so important, just want to share what is happen over here, taken yesterday, this all taken when power outages did NOT happen.

my workshop for only making incubator you can see those kerosene lamp is not operating now, and that white thing, guess what is that? exactly, i'm buying a styrofoam box, if my first incubating is success then i will build another one using styro and i will modified it to make it able to use kerosene lamp without making it on fire. styrofoam are very2 inflammable.

"fingers crossed" is an expression that means "wishing you luck."
The smiley that is wishing with his fingers twisted together... that one means "fingers crossed"

It is hoping and wishing for the best!

Beat me to it!

Sorry, Mulia, as I wrote that I started to wonder if you knew that expression. I have some friends from Japan, so I think about things like that as I write/talk now.

If you set them on the 12th, then the 13th counts as day 1. So youa re on day 5 now, and will candle on Aug 22. Your hatch day should be Sept 2nd for the chickens. They may be early or late since the temp has been unstable.
Ducks take longer, you know?

Yup, ducks take about 28 days, depending on the breed, up to 35 days for muscovies. I candle my duck eggs on Day 7, because they develop more slowly and the veining is not always clear on Day 5. So don't toss the duck eggs if they're not developing on Day 5--give them a few extra days.

Building a new incubator looks like fun, mulia. I want to try my hand. I'm going to see what I already have lying around that I could use. Maybe I can buy *only* a thermostat, and find everything else lying around this madhouse somewhere.
