game fowl pullets?

Ask in the "Show off your Games!" thread - Otherwise I would NOT advise a hatchery to get them from, if you want true purebred Gamefowl.

i use to have games i only had roosters and stags i never bred them threw the years i have been breeding and selling normal farm chickens i went out bought a 2 year old rooster from texas with proven lines from some mexicans at a sale we had up here. I would like to start breeding my own roos and pullets and have only game fowl on this place i have a decent sized barn that my layers are in i threw my new game roo in their with them i have that barn and 2 other outside pens so i would like to get a total of 2 more breeding roos along with the one i have wich gives me 3 roosters i would like to get around 15-30 hens. And concentrate on 2-3 lines of quailty fowl as i have learnd that trien to breed more than 3 lines is to much hasel and would not work for games. Does Anyone Have any tips for me to start out by doin this? It cant be much diffrent than raising my other birds except with more quailty handleing and closer attention and better feed any links or helpful advice would be appreciated here a pick of my roo i got

it is alot diffrent from raising non game chickens , first because they are GAME, even the hens , that means you may not be able to keep some of the hens together , they will fight too, also you will not have good quality birds from just putting a rooster in the pen with 10 or 12 hens , you need to single mate them , put hens in 4X4 pens and rotate the rooster, everyday , the hens can lay 3 or 4 days of fertile eggs from just being with cock one day, this sounds like alot of work but belive me it will save you time in the long run , also keep good records of what chicks came from what breeding this will save time later , even though a cock and a hen are perfect , they will not always produce , perfect off spring, if you plan to keep or sell and off spring make sure you cull hard before you let any out or keep them for breeding , one bad bird in your breeding could take years to get the bad genes back out , also you will not be able to get alot of eggs from them because most will go broody after 7 to 10 eggs , when you do get chicks wing band and toe punch them to be sure of what they are out of, keep good records , then i turn all my young birds loose once they get there feathers , yes you will lose some to predators and who knows what eles but when they get penning age you will only have the smartest healtyest ones to pen, another thing know the line of birds you are getting because they mature at diffrent times , this way you dont come home and have 35 or 40 dead or alomost dead stags from gameing up before you had the pens ready , you will need a lot of 4X4 pens for stags or barrels because each one needs own pen prolly at 5 or 6 months
