game fowl pullets?

Some pretty good advice, but another thing I would like to add is do your research. You can find good birds on auctions no doubt, but compared to that of a good breeder or birds you would receive from a friend most of the birds on there are junk. The auction sites are full of peddlers and people out just to make a buck, nine times out of ten you won't get quality birds from these people. Same thing with dealing over the internet anywhere, a lot of big name breeders are no better than the people on auction sites (though there are exceptions).

PS. And since it was mentioned here, and people often do look for that. As of now no hatchery sells the American gamefowl, they only carry "Oriental". But every hatchery oriental game I have seen is junk, gamefowl are not like the rest of birds. If a hatchery carries them they would eventually just turn into birds, that is why it is always best to purchase from a breeder. Even the layers from hatcheries too are too often just birds, since they are crossed somewhere with birds that aren't even the same breed or birds that are even in their blood (I.E in my opinion ruining the breed). The hatcheries breed for production a lot of the times to fill the orders, and gamefowl can't make up for that. The average gamefowl hen will lay 5-7 eggs a week if kept under ideal conditions.

Orientals are even less, most laying about two or three dozen a year tops so kind of makes you wonder how the hatcheries crank out hundreds per year especially since if they had real Orientals they wouldn't even be able to house all of the hens it would require.

thanks for the advice i appreciate it i new they were diffrent then regular fowl as i have had them before i had all my stags and cocks before tied to barrels my question is what do people do in the winter when it snows with the cocks that are tied out? Also i think i will stick with 10 hens. Also when you say i will lose some from predatores and such im guessing that you let the hen go broody and hatch her own correct? and dont use a incubator i agree if you do as that would make the chicks stronger. or do you mean you hatch them then once their featherd you let them roam? to me it would be easier to let the hen raise the chicks as i am not looking to get huge right off the bat so a hen that is raising chicks will not be much to loss to me?
I also agree that i will be purchasing hens from a buyer around here that way i no what i am getting thanks yall also if any of you have a good link on how to dub these suckers let me no? what is the right age to dub them?

american game fowl can take a whole lot more cold than they can heat , barrels work fine , just make sure there cords dont get stuck to them in the snow , i hatch some in incubator and some with the hens , when they get feathered i turn them loose , i dont turn hen loose though just put her in pen where chicks can go through the wire , my hens dont get along to well when they have chicks, you can look on you tube for dubing videos , or get some one in your area to show you , also you can dub any age after about 6 or 7 months , only thing is if you live in cold climate you may want to dub befor it gets winter so they wont get frost bite , i dub most of mine when the weather gets cool , that way mosqitos dont bother them the first night after dubing

thanks for the info i went out got some barrels today only 5 bucks a peice and got some equipment to make teathers out i also think im goin to take 4 pallets make 4 walls out of them nothin but regular grass for the floor then on one of the sides i will cut hole their and lay a barrel on it side put it up againts it so they go in and out for the hens or extra stags to go in and out of purdy inexpensive stuff and can be moved to fresh ground i have found some breeders close that said they will have pullets for sale

Sounds good to me, even standing to barrel up straight would work well I think.. As long as you remember to attach it lol. I've been thinking about making a few more pallet pens myself, they're always GIVING them away down here.

same and cheap i thought of jus placeing the barrel up right in the pen but any longer then it will take me to cut a hole in the side and lay the barrel down to give em a bit more room is worth it
