I would like some input on game fowl cocks. I see some very nice Hulsey game chicks over on eggbid. I am not really intersted in breeding these birds but find them awesome to look at. I would like to sort of let them have the run of my barn and after I finish with my breeding pens, on the large fowl that I am now breeding, I like to let everyone sort of have the run of the place on weekends and evenings. I let all breeds and everyone run together.

I have not had much trouble at all with the roosters getting in each others stuff when they have plenty of space.

The question is since these are game fowl am I certain to have more fighting and more damage done? I don't really want to keep all the stags separate all the time. Am I committed to that with these birds?

As you can tell I dont know much about game fowl. They are impressive looking birds though

the stags will run together till they are 6 mo old or so, if you run all stags and one cock with no hens in sight or near you may make 8months with not to much fighting , but you can not let game cocks run together with out fighting , no matter what you do , they are goin to fight each other, also you cant just turn one loose with the others penned because he will go to the others and fight through the wire , they will not get along like barn yard roosters , they want to be the top cock on the yard and if they hear another one crow they will figure out a way to get to them, so you can pretty much count the idea of letting the stags run together loose to for to long , because you will come home to a bloody mess and they will chase your other rooster , game fowl are alot more athletic than barnyard birds so your regular barn yard rooster will prolly not be able to out run them , dont let this keep you from getting some gamefowl, if you ever get a few you will be hooked they are very beautiful and people birds they will prolly be some of the tamest on your farm,

Thanks that is great information. I have heard that in terms being good with people they can be awesome. I will wait until I can get the place ready for them. My RIR cocks run together pretty well I can keep a couple with the hens and aside from the occasional nick they have it figured out.

That cock in the photo on eggbid is one good looking son of a gun. I dont know anything about them and he might be a junker for all I know but he sure looks imprssive to me.

Oh I just had a horrible experience with 2 juvenile game roos we raised here hatched by my game hen. Nospurs on them nothing but buds and the little sucker flogged and killed my brown lehorn pure roo and my huge almost triple his size barred rock roo. They cannot be housed with other roos it just doesn't work I learned the hard and expensive way. He left on Monday needless to say!!!!! Games are beautiful and the hens are the best and most fierce mothers, excellent broodies but well for me no more roos, I will keep the hens maybe see how their offspring come out but no more game roos ever!!!!!!
