Game hen?

Looks like an American Game Hen to me. Gotta love them green legs. These hens make some of the best broodies, they are very protective.

what a great bird!! If she is able to fly in and out of the coop , she will likely hide out her nest in the spring .

I disagree with an earlier post about them not laying. She looks like my american game hen who also has height to her, and similar coloring. Somewhat flighty but by far the best broody and protective mother ever!!!!! Faithful layer every day light tan, creamy white colored egg good sized. Only stops laying when broody!!! Mine raised two sets of chicks last summer. I think you have a good looking hen there!!

When I first moved here where I am now, I brought a game hen with me but only had a small cage to keep her in. I gave her to the lady next door and That spring she made her a nest in the hollow of a living old oak tree here on the property line. The second set she laid under an old smoker grill in their back yard. She raised all her chicks from both clutches and even fought a hawk( and won) protecting them!! I really do love the game hen mothers!!

She looks like a game hen around 2-3 years give or take but not old. Looks to be what MS gamers called a Gilmore. Game hens can be very broody. Temper varies with every bird. One hen can be the sweetest thing and yet the sister can be very aggressive. Mostly you can handle her a lot (5-10 min at a time) should keep her calm, but if she runs free good luck catching her cause game hens can fly far and high. Good looking hen. She should be a seasonal layer and should be a good sitter.
