We are close to Hattiesburg, so quite a bit south from where you're headed!

It could have went through a mutation and came out short and he didn't want it, I still see this happening in some clutches of gamefowl. A friend just culled one hen because she's half the size of the rest of them, she gets fed the same and all, same age just mutation.

And it's too hard to tell with the mysterious comb and colors, could be a cross cock.

I'm positive he's a cross. When the guy told us what he was he used about 4 different names. I just google "gamefowl" and he doesn't ever look like any that I see.
