GAME ROOSTERS.. a question...

This is called tethering. You can find more information here:

"Gamefowl will normally be housed in separate pens or tethered with cords attached to tepees or barrels. Tethering is the most convenient method of keeping the males separated and at the same time providing the most natural environment for health, body and feather to develop. Tethering is more economical as this does not require near as much material for shelter. Tethering requires less space, allows for easier moving to fresh ground, and decreases the risk of having the feathers damaged by wire for show purposes."

Definately going with plastic. I am not sure how I would make a door for them, and also, I think it would bake them being shut in there during the summer?

Also, just to add, fighting game cocks is legal in certain areas in the US, and in other countries. I do not support or encourage illegal activities in any way, shape, or form, and always look for the best treatment of the bird(s).

Your right, plastic barrels will not work, they will become ovens, and you do need to protect them from predators. If I were you I'd rethink this, look at the shelter pictures on line, most are wood structures, the birds need a cool water source if your area is hot, and may even need additional shade than the shelter, like the shade of a tree the shelter is under.

It's a very intensive bird managment system with each bird needing individual feed and water, compared to group living. Sometimes necessary, but sure not for me!

No, billions of birds are housed like this, it has been going on for over a century. Not something to rethink. This question is directed to gamefowl breeders, not hobby farmers. Sorry.

"billions of birds" these days are kept in hot, stuffy warehouses for a month until it is due time.

I'm pretty sure we all know what you're asking, and still - A responsible owner would have a shelter for their birds.

If you really look at even the poorest places where people keep gamefowl, they keep them in woven wooden "huts" where it doesn't get too hot, or in small, individual coops

Lol, as am I. I just don't think most of the people on here understands the mentality of a game keeper, and what you have to do to make it all work.

Another thing I have noticed with game birds is that the owners usually have them close to trees for shade.

What country do you live in? I am USA, and I have never heard of a wooden hut for gamefowl. Even the richest keepers use the plastic barrel method. It provides for them just fine, birds worth over 1k are housed this way. I am just wondering HOW.
