GAMES FOR EGGS and other fun prizes

Postage alone ranges on average between $10 to $20. I recycle when I can. I also use egg cartons for packing which cost 50¢ each locally, or 44¢ if I buy online and get 100 or so. Since I don't sell eating eggs I don't often get egg cartons back.

However, so far I have a little surplus on the shipping fees I've collected. I was thinking of doing a "Showcase Showdown" or something, one final game near the end of the year, where only the winners, i.e., those who have paid the shipping fee, can play, and where that prize would be shipped for free. Of course that prize would be depending on how well the hens are laying.

Next Spring I hope to be able to offer exchequer Leghorns and blue exchequer leghorns, as well as Isabel leghorns.

@chickendreams24 I have silver grey dorkings-a little more on the shy side but coming around-but my birds are all only 3-4 months old so hard to tell still. @deserteggs22 yes! lavender orps!!! They were my best hatch of shipped eggs and are turning out beautiful! & @AlilSassy I see where you are coming from. 3 or so months ago there was "chatter" on the incu thread but when I had my very first hatching issues, everyone chipped in to respond and help. I saw things I had in common with others through their convos and it brought up questions I might never thought to ask as I just started with chickens this June. I can see during a game where talking during a game could screw something up and agree that should be kept to a minimum but I felt very welcomed by people and now have made several new friends that I enjoy sharing life with-chicken and nonchickenrelated.

I just want to say thank you to all of you for your kindness. I am enjoying this thread tremendously and absolutely would enter in a contest if shipping were free. Don't get me wrong I know it's by far worth it but money can get tight as DH2B and I are trying to gey out of debt and saving for a wedding and a house. Not trying to give anyone a sob story or anything just explaining. I would love to play and I will when I can otherwise there's no way I could afford real ayam cemanis or many of the other awesome breeds I hear you guys talk about. Our other problems right now are space. With 50 grow out cockerals headed for the freezer things are a bit tight around here. I was recently gifted some eggs by another bycer and only had to pay shipping. We got some amazing eggs and I'm really hoping we get a good hatch. Someday in the future I would absolutely love to participate in this thread as an egg donator. We plan to have CL, silkies, Orpingtons, OEGB and a few other breeds.

I hope this thread goes on for a long time and I hope to be able to join in the spring. In the meantime I'm loving reading it and watching all of you play.

What color Dorkings and silkies do you have? Dorkings are a breed we've been considering trying out but they're hard to find around us and I want good stock. Any aggression from the roos?

THREE FROM NINE

Place the letters of the 9-letter words on the dashes, one letter per dash, to spell a 7-letter word, a 5-letter word, and a 3-letter word. Each letter of a 9-letter word will be used once.

There are 9 puzzles. Each puzzle has three answers. You must get all three words correct for the puzzle to get a "ticket" for that puzzle. You can earn up to 9 "tickets" for this game. Winners will be randomly drawn from the "tickets".

There will be two winners for this game. Prize is 6+ Ayam Cemani eggs for each winner.

Game ends Sunday 9/25/2016 7:00 PM CST. PMs are due before game ends. Answers and winners will be revealed at 9:00 PM. Eggs will be shipped Monday 09/26/2016.

• By playing, you agrees to pay a small fee if you win. Fees will be posted for each game, typically $25. Only the winner has to pay. Fees are used to cover postage and packing materials. Playing is free. You must be able to pay via Paypal to ensure speedy shipment of time sensitive hatching eggs.
• Winner must claim prize within a reasonable time, not to exceed 12 hours. "Claiming" a prize includes sending payment and shipping information. Winners, please claim your prize Sunday night so I can get labels printed asap.
• Unclaimed prizes will be forfeited. Winner may not carry over prizes for future ship date.

Cj, I agree on making it limited on how many can play for another, but to add, I've been super impressed with the sportsmanship of all involved... from what I've seen, the offers of eggs to others was mainly to ones who hadn't won before and showed great sharing...

As for the shipping, that's such a toss up on what shipping will actually cost... not all have computers or ways to print shipping labels... or scales for weighing... and getting to the PO for some is a bigger trip than others... I was also informed by many egg shippers that USPS quit giving a discount this year on their clicknship... I upcycle when I can too, but there's so much to consider with shipping that it is a gamble to even guess what the cost will be to any given area, unless flat rate boxes are used... but those can be tricky packing in enough eggs safely as well...

I shipped eggs to Michigan and it cost $14... same box and packing materials were used to ship 2 less eggs to Arizona and that cost $24... that was just postage costs and I had charged $15 for shipping...

I think having it as a prize fee rather than a strict shipping fee is much more accurate... and hosts are very clear about how many eggs, type of eggs and possible faults that anyone playing can determine whether they feel the prize fee is worth the eggs... I'm not trying to argue, just bring up a broader view of what others may have to deal with in getting eggs out... not to mention the time, energy and effort the hosts put into the games they set up... and any time anyone mails out hatching eggs, they are risking their reputation if a receiver is not happy... word of mouth can be great or cruel, that's another gamble...

Bottom line, there's no getting rich mailing hatching eggs in any way... it's how we try to get some good birds out to others that might be cheaper for them than tracking down and purchasing birds already started...

Anyways, just my 2 cents for what it's worth...

Thank you for the input @RavynFallen ! You are correct, there are no more discounts for using ClickNShip. However, you can still get a small discount if you use other 3rd party vendors like Stamps.com. I haven't seen great savings using Stamps.com. I've also had issue with the P.O. not wanting to refund on late Express shipments for the sole reason that I used Stamps.com. So now I use only ClickNShip for Express. For Priority I will print via Stamps.com if I have time to print the label at home. If I have to print from work I use ClickNShip.

@prizepete you can still play this game. The limitation on how often you can play/win is geared more for limiting those with seemingly "unfair" advantages like Google Fiber. Nope, I don't have that yet. I'm limited to one sole internet provider option where I live, take it or leave it, and we're lucky to get 1.5 mpg, although they charge us for 3 and routinely try to upsale us to 10 even thought hey can't provide 10. But all in all I'm not unhappy with our connection speed. For games of chance like this weekend's game of "Three From Nine", everyone can play. If you don't want the eggs, just let me know and I'll withhold your name from the drawings.

I think what you're saying as far as winners n such is pretty much already going on, isn't it? I am in a small town as well, only one option for Internet, and we fight wifi congestion AND being fed (the whole town) via microwave antenna... So I don't always know which is making me slow lol... Just frustrating when I know the answer, put it but 5 answers are there already, (as of 5+ seconds ago according to the bar above the comment) or, I see it say "new post" I refresh and it's a question or photo and answers already... That's why I suggested a chat room. It would live refresh. If there were separate channels it could also clean up some of the chatter on the help threads where it seems like more hanging out, than talking about anything on topic of chickens... I'm relatively new, and a lot of ppl here have known each other for years, and so it's normal for them, but it is discouraging for a newer person such as myself trying to ask a question, which the thread is for, but feel like I might be intruding on a fun conversation of fixing a pickup or something lol

Sometimes we play games that are turn based and sometimes the games are a free for all. Really, I like when the hosts mix it up, keeps it exciting. If you know you can't play because of your Internet connection, wait out the games that are 'first answer gets the point'. It's nice to level the playing field so to speak but I don't like the fact it would limit the kinds of games we can play. Ya know?
