Gape worm - Safeguard not working - suggestions?

How many days are you giving the ponazuril? I think it is similar to toltrazuril for coccidia, but I am not aware of how it works or if they are hard on the liver. When there are symptoms of gapeworm, that it pretty serious, and I would be tempted to treat it soon. You may need to check with a vet about whether to use both. @casportpony may have an opinion.

He said its fast acting and I only needed to use it once.

I just weighed another hen who is 6 lbs. She would get 2 cc, right? @Eggcessive

Also this particular hen just laid her first egg of the season today. How long do I need to avoid eating them?

@mama23 If I were you, I'd get started with the Safeguard early tomorrow morning. Dose your birds first thing in the mornings prior to feeding your birds and prior to letting them eat anything at all. The worms will be weakest prior to feeding, making the wormer more effective killing them.

I just now saw this. I already treated the one showing symptoms. It's 3 pm here. Is tmrw morning too soon for dose 2? They get up at 7am

Nope, it's not too soon to dose them the following morning. Gapeworms are not a worm you want to mess with. You've got to hit them hard and fast. Go out to the coop earlier than 7am and yank a bird off the roost and worm each bird one at a time.

Is it possible for some birds to be immune to gapeworm or at least be able to keep it at bay? I'm completely new to this worm.
