Gapeworm canada

If you can't find Safeguard or Panacur liquid or paste, I just had a chat with Jeffer's and they said this:

Gapes are pretty rare on my property, but a few people like @Miss Lydia, @Ravynscroft, have had more of a problem with gapes in their flocks. The treatment I use for gapes is Valbazen for 3 days, or Safeguard or Panacur for 5 days.

I checked out the Canadian TSC site and the horse wormers have the wrong medications for gapes. @Wickedchicken6 , I haven't looked yet, but did you see if they sell cattle or goat/sheep de-wormers?
Here's the link to the animal portion of the site.

I don't see anything under cattle. I don't see sheep specifically.

For us personally, cattle and sheep dewormer like Safeguard, (we buy both) is from our vet. The only thing displayed for sale that I see in feed stores in Saskatchewan/Manitoba are the horse dewormers. We only use on label drugs or those prescribed off-label from our vet.

I'm *never* one to discourage people from consulting with a vet, and in this case, I think that would be a very good idea.

Fecal floats are only as good as the vet or technician doing them and many people have them done only to find out later that their results were a false negative.

I know about three types of fecals:
  • Direct smear is when they look at a smear of poop under the scope
  • Flotation is when they mix the poop in a special liquid and test that
  • Flotation with centrifugation. Same as flotation, but a centrifuge is used.
From what I know, flotation with centrifugation is the most reliable, but even then it's possible to get a false negative.

about 5 days.she was the only one eating the horn worms and the only one to get gapeworm. I conflated the two but it is possible they wernt related.
Not positive, but I think it takes longer than five days. :idunno. I'm not saying you she didn't have gapes, but I don't think she got them from eating those worms, though I could be wrong. :hide
