My buff orpington cockerel has gape worm, stretching neck and wide yawns with difficulty breathing and swallowing.had him on medicated feed and as he stopped eating changed to flubenvet powder double strength in yoghurt syringes down throat.that has been for 5 days now with no change.all I have is a cockrel covered in yoghurt, stretching and yawning.will this improve, how long will it be.any help please.

I agree, it's most likely a crop issue. Does he have free access to chick or grower grit (crushed granite)?

How old is he? Medicated feed is only for prevention of coccidiosis in young chicks. It does not treat anything else and can be harmful if fed too long.

How old is your cockerel?

What do you feed including treats? You are giving Medicated Feed, what is the active Ingredient for the medication in the feed = Amprolium or Flubenbedazole (Flubenvet)?

Do you provide Insoluble Grit (Crushed Granite or Flint)?

Can you check his crop to make sure its emptying?

Does he have any lesions or canker inside the beak?

Does he have any symptoms of coughing, sneezing, mucous, facial swelling, bubbly eyes or pus in the eyes?

I would not double up dosing of the Flubenvet Powder, follow the instructions for dosing the powder which is generally mixed in DRY feed.

Is your cockerel able to eat or drink on his own?

Work on hydration and see if he will eat for you.
