Garage or basement

We are getting baby chicks and we don’t know where we should put them. It is fall so, it is cold outside. We were going to put them in the garage but, we decided we could put them in the basement. We have not decided yet so, where should we put them?????🤔:idunno
Wherever you can keep them at the appropriate temperature as they grow, and the easiest to look after them. My 2 cents.

We don’t have a coop..............yet.

i will do basement unless someone has a reason the garage is better if that happens i will think about it.

I voted basement as it is easier to tend/observe them AND keep a close eye on that heat lamp.

Every year there are fires caused by poorly secured or knocked down lamps. I don't want you to go through that.

Secure that heat lamp with chain. DO NOT TRUST THE CRAPPY CLAMP....EVER.

Don't let their size fool you when you get them, they grow fast! It would be a good idea to start building the coop asap. I made the mistake of getting chicks before I built the coop. A built one is better than a prefab one.

This 100%!!!! I got chicks with the thought that it would be a couple of months before I'd be able to move them outside anyway and then I had one thing after another go wrong with coops and ended up with house chickens until they were almost 4 months old!!! Shortly after they moved outside to the coop, the first started laying so we were THIS close. I would not recommend that method. 😂

As for basement or garage, definitely basement but wherever you will be more often. I keep my brooder box in my home office. Not only does it give me plenty of time to check on them but I love hearing the sweet peeps all day long while I work.

Home Depot sells chain by the foot. You don't need a giant chain but I really strongly recommend using a chain.

While the clamp on the lights LOOK like they are holding they slowly slip, are easy to bump loose and are definitely a hazard.

Give the securing of the lamp very serious consideration and planning so you avoid a disaster please.
