My French neighbour gave me the nets of the hay bales, so I started to build a tunnel to protect my vegetables from the 3 ladies and their man. It needs some improvement, LOL, but I'll trust it will work out nicely. Just my first try:

Cute photo and chickens, they do love greenery. What other improvements did you want to make on your garden?

I just used a net with big holes in it, so I have to repair it. "Some improvement " was an understatement.

I'll just cover my planting beds, and hope for the best. They have lots of space, but they love gardening as much as I do. I was hoping that they would do the raking, but they only eat the worms I dig up.
But winter is still going on here in central France. Rain, cold, rain and rain. And cold. And over and over again.

Last year unbeknownst to me, I grew most of the garden for the chickens. They trotted over and enjoyed all my tomatoes, watermelons, cucumbers, strawberries, peas, and leafy greens. I didn't fence it off like I should have. They had not noticed the garden until everything started producing. One of my roosters, at the time, found the garden and it was downhill from there.

That is okay though, it was just fun each morning watching them run across the pasture to the garden.

It was like the chicken 100 yard dash. The garden was about 75-80 feet from the chicken coops.

I wish we could borrow some of your rain here. I don't want to go on water restrictions this summer because of the drought.

Once you get the netting up well your garden area should do great. What are you wanting to plant this season?

Last year was the opposite, just dry, sources were almost empty. So, we hope this weekend will be a bit warmer and drier as the weather report let us believe.

I'm planning tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, herbs like koriander and persil etc, beans (runner and french), cabbage all sorts, potatoes, lettuce, carrots, beetroots, paksoy etc, fruit: strawberries, redcurrants, cherries, apples, plums etc and lots of flowers of course. Tomatoes and pumpkins are already planted up in pots. My lettuce is still safe, I sowed the first in February under plastic, in the snow, but its doing fine. Fingers crossed.

And you? I don't know what kind of climate you're having or what kind of ground. The neighbours do grow peaches, but not very succesfull the last 5 years.

It is warm and beautiful out today and yesterday. We are due for a bit of rain sometime tomorrow or the next day. The weather has been confusing the meteorologists I think because it does not always match what they say it will be like. We will have a couple of warm to hot days with humidity 80% and then it will be cold and almost freezing at night for a few days. It will even out soon to just plain hot and humid. Most of Texas doesn't have much of a winter or spring really. In East Texas it seems we go from Summer to Autumn, a few weeks of winter, a few weeks of spring, and back to summer. Kind of like that sketch on Monty Python's Holy Grail with the changes of the seasons.

As for my garden, I have planted herbs (Fennel, Lavender, Thyme, Endive, Marjoram, Oregano, Basil, Rosemary, Amaranth, Anise, Parsley, Catmint, Lemon Balm, Spearmint, Apple Mint, Chocolate Mint, Salvia). I plan on planting just a few more herbs. I use them a lot in cooking, medicine, and other things. For fruits and vegetables I have planted cucumbers, several varieties of tomatoes, carrots, black-eyed peas, garden beans, green peas, onions, watermelons, cantolope, gourds, bell peppers, seedless concord grapes, blueberries, lemon tree, lime tree and some others. I plan on getting some more fruit trees, peaches, apricots, and plums maybe. I would love to have some fresh plums to make plum sauce with. That would be delicious.
