Garden Pest DIY

Any one have any DIY garden pest killers or preventers? Or even exsperience with any.

1) Irish springs original bar soap?
2) yellow solo cups tacked upside down on a stake then coated with vaseline to make pest stick to it, yellow for the squash color.
3) milky spray
These are a few ive heard of but have not yet tryed.

I've used dawn dish soap and water on box elder bugs and aphids. It does work on those but not sure what else it works on.
