In the Brooder
Time for an update!
Ripped out all electrical (it was totally wrong) and the insulation. I found a MASSIVE ants nest between the layers of the foam board so glad I did that.
Removed and reused the smaller work bench so the “poop board with roost” would be a bit bigger for more chickens. Yay chicken math.
Poop boards are OSB covered with click and lock floor tiles from the habitat for humanity restore near me. This will make them water resistant for cleaning. The gaps behind are now closed with 1x10’s. I used 1x8’s in the front so I can put sand in the boxes. Everything is “sealed” with caulking to minimize anywhere that bugs can hide. Roost bars are painted handrails configured in a “T” and anchored to the walls with brackets. Also added some balusters underneath for additional support. Did it ALL with no help.
Have a cabinet door I want to use for the pop door. But trying to figure that one out still. You can see it underneath in the back.
Need ideas for where/how to place the ramp up there for them. One of my ladies is about 3-4 and I don’t want to make it too difficult.
Working on building/putting together the nest boxes tonight after dinner. Found them at target for a great price.
Used up some old spray paint trying to get a coat on the walls. Going to need the barn and fence paint instead as the spray paint is too thin.
Next up is redoing the gable vent. Adding a matching one on the opposite end. Pop door. Paint. Flooring. Etc.
What do y’all think?!?!
