I have spent two days planting in the garden- and still not through. I try to plant perennial flowers in the yard- and annuals on the patio. I just planted 9 rose bushes, 21 succulents and marigolds, 1 Jasmine, 3 Hostas, 1 Hibiscus, 3 purple clover, and a dozen begonias. Still have a lot to do- gardening, like chickens, can be a full time job- but boy will the yard look good- hopefully.
Wow, don't forget to share pictures!

Gardening is fun, but it sure is a lot of work! What kind of roses did you plant? I planted Sunny Knock Out roses last year, and love them! They have the best smell, and bloom all the way till frost.

We got another bed done yesterday! It's been filled & bagged compost mixed in. I still need to add the peat and a barrow full of chicken compost. We need to put up the trellising for the green beans and I can start planting. :) My butt was dragging. I'll be so glad when we get them all up. Sad thing is, DH does the really hard work. Sometimes I feel so useless.

One more bed to put up. It's my asparagus bed. Debating on if I want to use it for asparagus or not. We all love asparagus, but it has such a short growing season. But, once it's planted, it will probably last the rest of my lifetime. I hadn't thought about that. If I do outlive it, I could do something else then! LOL

Be thankful that DH does that hard work! I don't hardly dare to let my hubby into the garden. He can wipe out an entire bed with his gommy feet in 2 minutes flat, even if I tell him where he can and can't step!

Asparagus bed! Gotta love it. Do you know you can interplant other crops in that bed? Such as brassicas and greens??? Get that asparagus planted, then tuck other garden crops in around it. They will all co-exist happily together. And the other veggies you plant will help to keep weeds from getting a foot hold there.

Sounds like an awesome idea. I hear a lot folks plant strawberries with the asparagus thoughts?

Hadn't heard that one, but it sounds like it could be a winner, except that you might be putting more foot traffic in the bed than asparagus would like. Depends on how the bed is set up and if it can be harvested without walking in it a lot. Both plants are perennials, and both need a good mulch, so could be a win/win situation. Hmmm... I don't have space to dedicate to either crop. But might be able to do a raised bed in the orchard that they could share.

The problem with strawberry beds is that they provide a really good cover area for mice and voles. Between the voles and the robins (they think anything red belongs to them), I gave up on strawberries.
