she couldn't wait. she mowed for an hour with
dull blades..
I told her that I would sharpen the blades before
I let her mow again.
I figured out what was wrong with the transmission
on the old Husqvarna mower. I bought it some time
in the 1980's. Last summer I got the motor running
real good. Now that I have it going in forward and
reverse, I will tear the mower deck apart and re grease
the bearings.
Annie made a rhubarb pie yesterday.
Except for some cleaning and straightening up. the
wood shop is all set for making sawdust..
Last year we prunned the very old apple tree severely.
this year it is loaded with blossoms.
we have one more possible frost to dodge yet.
didn't get any apples last year..

I serviced my old riding mower . There are no grease zerks on the mower deck portion. The bearings are of the SEALED type. Mine are half way to heaven,,, so eventually I will remove, and get replacements. I did apply oil to the bearings, and let that soak in as best as it would. Its like giving a cat a 10th life,,, so it worked.
I also made this roller pull-behind with a trailer ball attachment. Much easier than dragging that roller by hand. Don't have the horsepower I once used to have. :old

No zerks on the spindles. probably sealed bearings.
I do not trust factory sealed bearings.
my new cement mixer would seize up after standing.
since I didn't use it very often it could be a long time.
finally I tore it open and the sealed bearings were dry
so I greased them and have no more trouble.
this lawn mower was laying in the weeds for a couple of years.
I will feel better if I tear it apart.. although the blades do turn.
Yesterday I backed the cub cadet up onto the car ramps.
then wrapped straps around the front axles and raised it up
with the tractor loader. I could sit on a chair and use the
impact wrench to get the blades off. first time I tried it
that way.. will do it again.. that mower deck is a real
PITA to get off and on..

That thing belongs is a museum!
i can't cast a stone. that one looks better than mine does.
I sharpened the three blades this afternoon. Had to
make a trip to town for an 11/16" impact socket.
FYI. a twelve point shiny socket strips out on the
second bolt..
I double checked, No zerk fittings on the columns.
I have everything soaking with BD Blaster now.

Made another trip to town for a 15mm impact socket.
I just love it when the item I am working on has SAE and
metric bolts.
Anyhow, I tore the mower deck all apart.
managed to get all the pulleys off without damaging any.
that is a minor miracle for me..
got three bearings out. one is seized up tight. today I
will pull the last three out. then decide if I have to buy
a set of six or try to find individual ones.

I did not have a 5/8 Half inch drive
I tried an 11/16 " twelve point on another bolt. it just
stripped out the socket..
today I took all the seals off of the bearings. hand packed
them with grease and put the seals back on. that should
last for the rest of my life..
went out for bluegills for fff tonight. $1.5o for old fashions..
