Place on paper towel and pat down. Let dry.
I think you can take a seed out of tomato and just place into potting soil and it will grow. I have cut open tomatoes from store that had seeds sprout inside tomato. I do just eat those tomatoes BTW.
If I remember correctly, Mom kept some seeds from tomatoes and cucumbers (her own) and they would sprout 5 years later.
I know that some weed seeds found in ancient tombs sprouted after 500 years. Something I read long time ago. Would have to research that some more. Not too concerned since I don't have plans that far in advance. :D

I scrape tomato seeds onto a paper plate and let them dry for a couple days then store them. They come off pretty well when they dry.

I use Walmart recycled reusable grocery bags for grow bags.
They are safe and last all season.

Do you get tomatoes from the seeds?

@cavemanrich I wonder if that would still be true with all the genetic modification being done to our food. Tomatoes now aren't the tomatoes from our childhood.
Not everything in this world is being genetically modified yet. I agree that tomatoes now are different than those of 50 years ago. That is well before GM started. Botanists have been cross pollinating,
cross breeding plants for ever .
The purpose behind all this is to have the new fruit/vegetable produce the desired seeds. In Peru, the origin of potatoes, The "Potato Institute" ??? grows and experiments with well over 100 different varieties of potatoes. They are always trying to develop a better plant resistant to the different ailments facing potato crops. The Corn Growing Industry is trying to feed the world as well as develop varieties resistant to different pests and diseases. Monsanto is viewed as the EVIL EMPIRE. They make GM corn and use it to make fuel for our automobiles. Everybody is pumping it into their cars and driving into the sunset with not complaints.
The NON GMO has become a profitable alternative as a result of GM scare. IT WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE AS AN OPTION. :)

I started saving seeds last year but tomato seeds have all that gel type stuff. How do you dry them out?
I can't remember where I learned this, but I stick the seeds in the water, then put the container on top of the fridge for a few days. Then I take it out, rinse well and dry on a paper towel. They stick, but I just tear the towel to plant.

I agree that cross pollination has happened by human design for quite some time. I am neither for nor against genetic modification for food production because neither side has convinced me. I don't care for Monsanto though.

This year I'm giving it a go then and will see what I get. Thanks!
