Gardening Posts!

Okay so potatoes need to be grown where there has never been eggplant, tomatoes, or potatoes for starters or were sod has recently been overturn. (Protects them from pests). I grow my potatoes in 10 gallon grow bags above ground, I plant one seed potato per bag, then keep the soil pH acidic around 4.5-5 add compost and remeber that potato leaves are poisinous to humans and animals. The potatoes are ready to harvest when the plant leaves die back.

I am growing fingerlings, and georgia jet sweet potatoes this year.

I have 50 tomato seedlings ready to go in the garden as soon as the rain stops!

And the pumpkin patch is all mounded and mulched and ready to plant... when the rain stops (!!!)

I planted potatos, onions, carrots, cabbage, shallots, sage, raddishes, beets, more carrots, a couple kinds of lettuce, and more carrots months ago.

I'm already picking raddishes. I really don't like them but the birds go CRAZY over raddish greens!

I planted my first rhizomes of hops 2 weeks ago. They are about 6" tall now. I am expecting good harvest and some great beer come fall.

Ooo Dan did you plant hops? I almost planted some this year as a living fence... where did you get yours?

I got mine from http://www.freshops.com/ 3 rhizomes of brewers gold for me, and three more of cascade that my brother is planting at his house. 4.50 a plant and 5$ flat to ship.

Just make sure you have the room for them. I am growing them for production so will be growing them vertically. They can grow up to 30' a year...

And when they are spent up for the season, I can cut them down and toss the bines in with the chickens.

Yes, it's my first year. Just go to your local garden store and you can buy asparagus crowns. You don't want to harvest the spears the first year, minimally the second year and a full harvest the third year.
